It's the one with the new rebuilt. So as I mentioned, as a result of the accident and rebuild, there are a few misalignments here and there. The trunk is one of them. It sits a tad bit to the left. If I go to shut the trunk softly, it doesn't lock. I have to close it with some force in order for it to do so. And when I go to open it, it doesn't lift up quite as much I think it should; as though there is too much friction. These things lead me to believe that the lock is not in the proper position; too far to the left. Looking at it, I think that the recess in the lock should be directly aligned with the recess in the chassis, but as you can see, it's not. I was wondering if you guys would mind quickly popping off your lock cover and seeing exactly where your lock lies. Thanks!
with a dead blow hammer to get it to where it. Shuts how you like it don't be scared I've worked in a body shop past 6 years this is the way to go unless u want to buy a new latch and even then it will Need some "finessing"

Yeah that is exactly what I am going to do haha. I tried bending it with pliers but it didn't budge..
Hitting it with a hammer did not work. It only makes it even more difficult to close. Can a few others please provide a pic of where their lock lies? The lock cover does not need to be removed. It would be much appreciated.
dude we told you not to buy that car, but you didn't listen to us. There are going to be a lot more problems down the line. You get what you pay for.
This guy... How'd I know some refuse to accept that it's possible to get a good deal on a rebuilt. Everyone has issues with their cars.. This a minor one.. It's not a big deal. In fact, I don't need to fix it. I want to. For you to jump on here and criticize me about the first issue I bring up, that is, the trunk lock being slightly misaligned, and saying I shouldn't have bought the car because of it, is plain ignorance.
Now if I said the transmission fell out of the bottom of the car, that's a different story..
So either please help by sending a picture of your lock or peace.
You can loosen those 10mm bolts that hold the latch down and adjust it a bit, there should be some play when its loose. If not, the actual trunk lid itself looks to be crooked a bit. Maybe loosen the hinge bolts and adjust it there too.

That's a good idea. I was thinking I was going to have to redrill new holes slightly to the right, but I'll try this first. And you're right, the lid is crooked, but I feel this is a direct result of the lock being out of alignment. The lid will sit where the lock makes it, right?
My first thoughts when I noticed the issue was that the hinges were out of alignment or something and that I needed to adjust those. But then I realized the hinges aren't completely rigid, and the trunk actually has a little leeway. Would you mind snapping a pick of your lock next time you get to your car?
Yeah I'll get a picture for ya, it'll be late tonight though. Try loosening the bolts on the latch and see where that gets you. Also, so if the trunk is not latched but down, is everything symmetrical or is it closer to the brake light on the left like the picture shows?
Sorry but if you have to hit your car with a hammer and that still won't line things up .... these are the things you can see. If the mechanic said the heck with getting the obvious right what do you think his attitude was about the not so obvious? IMHO you made a big mistake .... just at what point you will admit it.
at the picture of your striker it looks like the bolt on the right is sitting "taller" than the one on the left if this makes sense to you _\-- almost like this like the bolt on the right pulled the threads and the metal towards the front of the car so maybe it wasn't a left right alignment as much as back and forth on the bolts if you get what I'm saying take the striker off and check with something flat/ straight

I will admit it when I end up having to pay > $10,000 in repairs that I wouldn't have had to otherwise, because that's how much I saved
And I don't even count this haha, because it's not something that needs to be replaced.. This is purely an aesthetic nuisance.
