MXP Catback paired with Z1 High Flow Cats

Hi All,

Back on the forums after quite a bit of time.

Recently, I was able to score a set of Z1 HFCs locally and planned on pairing these to my current MXP Catback Exhaust.

I have heard quite a few sound clips with Berk HFCs paired to the MXP Catback with less then diserable results(too much rasp for my taste).

Differences from Berk and Z1:
Berk has a 200 CPSI
Z1 has a 300 CPSI

With this, can the conclusion be made that Z1 HFCs would have a much less raspier sound by this metric or are there other things to consider?

Having these installed tomorrow and am not too worried about the rasp if it is to a minimal extent.

Any input on this would be awesome.

Thanks!

Yes. The higher the number of cells, the more restrictive, should sound great! Are they resonated?

Thanks for the clarifaction!

Unfortunately, they are not resonated.

They are very similar to the Berks in design, just with a higher CPSI count.

Meh, cats are very good resonators themselves. I have resonated test pipes and only get raspy at about 3500-4500 RPM's, you should be that or less I would imagine.

That is what I was thinking what would happen.

I'll post up a sound clip tomorrow of the setup. Not much on the MXP Catback out there so this should help out those who are on the edge of buying HFCs to pair to their MXP.

Thanks Again!

Any update? Install z1 HFCs tomorrow paired with my ark. That demon bolt ain't no joke as I couldn't get the last one out so off to the shop I go to get it cut haha. But your combo sounds nice, would love a sound clip.

Hey there,

Yup. I ended up pulling the trigger and having it done.

That Demon Bolt wasn't much of an issue for my mechanic when he installed them. He did tell me that it is a bit of a jarring experience the first time around.

Review Time:

So How it sounds:
-Its literally the same MXP Sound and Tone, just louder and more amplified.
-1-3K is Deep, Entering 4K-5K is some slight rasp(don't mind it as much as I thought i would), and after 5K, it smooths out and has a nice beefy tone to it.

-It does have the infamous hiss to it. But honestly not bad. The smell is tolerable as well.

-SES did come on. Reason was I did not reset the ECU Post Install and it triggered after 35ish miles. Checked the connection and bolts one last time and did one final battery reset and to my suprise it went away. YMMV of course.

-Overall: Quite pleased with this combination.

Ark Catback Paired with Z1 HFC sounds killer. Deep tone and very little to even no rasp throughout the entire rev-range.

Actually, another Coupe Driver local to Atlanta, put down 330whp with Arc Catback, Z1 HFC, and Stillen G3s.

Sound Clip should be up in the next day or so. Waiting for the oppritunity to take a video of it lol.

Going to see how much power I put down with this combination. Trying to find the best flowing combination and working from there.

Hi All,

Back with a promised update:

SoundClips for those who requested.

Exhaust has definately mellowed out and am very happy with it.
It is pretty loud compared to the stock cats.

From what I remember, the MXP Catback was designed around the factory cats in mind. Thats why even resonated test pipes give it a raspy/harsh tone.

Sound Clip Links:

Thanks!
