Thinking of outside the box
Just a random tirade: the thread title is not cohesive with the topic at hand - a supercharged VQ is so far inside the box that it could never be outside the box. Well, not unless it is paired with a couple of turbos but I doubt there would be any room in the bay so maybe it could be put "outside the box" / engine bay?
And as far as the thread....I have not heard of anyone doing anything beyond staying with Stillens tune or a different tune, so outside of the box meant ANYTHING other than those.
Normally what has been done to try to get more power out of the stillen is a2a, change the pulley, and/or change the impeller. Many have changed pulleys resulting in blown motors. The stillen is good for what it is (400 ish whp), but if you want more power than that superchargers are not the solution.
For a 100whp, a supercharger is ridiculously over priced at about $80-90 per HP, not to mention, doesn't sound very safe/reliable. If you're only after 400ish, I'd get nitrous. Easily as safe or more than a charger...
While a hybrid system is technically feasible. It would not be worth the money. Unless you had some crazy electronic boost settings, the 2 induction methods would produce different pressure levels. At some point the 2 different intake streams would have to meet and you would end up with huge efficiency losses due to turbulence from combining these two. It would require complex piping that the G does not have room for, especially given what I would imagine are less than desirable power levels. Hybrid systems are used in such a way that one builds boost down low, then the other takes over at higher RPM. This is called twincharging, and I think VW tried their hand at it for a while. They no longer produce an engine with twincharging because it was too expensive.
Follow Boeing's and Lockheed's lead -- turbosupercharger feeding into a mechanical supercharger. Granted, they did it for high-altitude performance...
