Bad Luck Today

Hey all. I was driving on I95 here in NJ on my way up north for work. I was in the far left line next to the divider and I had nowhere to go. A truck tire tread came whirling into my lane and I couldn't do anything but watch it hit me. Luckily it didn't hit my windshield but it did mangle my front bumper and it's marked up my wheel and fender. I don't know the full extent of the damage. I just got home and will be getting in touch with insurance.

Not sure if it flew off of a truck or someone hit it up ahead and sent it rolling towards me. The traffic was pretty dense. Wrong place wrong time I guess.

I was thinking about picking up one of those IPL bumpers from ebay anyway so I suppose this is as good a time as any

Dang it :/.. I was JUST thinking about something like this and what route I would take if I hit something. I would get a quote on the IPL bumper, accessories, paint labor etc.. Then compare it to your deductible and the loss of any claim free discounts you get, the raised rates for the following 3 years and compare the pros/cons. Ultimately nothing looks broken, this all may buff out too..

I feel your luck, as I was in the same situation last year in NJ on I95 South Bound.
1st .Good to know you're ok.
2nd, if you decide to fix it yourself, it's easy. That black tar marks on your bumper and wheel can come off easily with windex and microfiber towel on a hot day.

Good Luck.

^ What G10 said... Just from the looks of it you may be able to buff off those scuffs. Your bumper will probably just pop back in unless a bracket or something is broken.

i had something similar happen to me.. A woman decided to run over a tire tread instead of going around it , popped it up and it hit my bumper.. I buffed out the marks and pushed the bumper back in place and was done.

Well that's certainly good news! I''m really hoping it'll be an easy fix. I have an appointment with an insurance agent tomorrow to look things over. I did see some spiderwebbing on the bumper. I'm just crossing my fingers that the wheel is alright.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Yeah glad you are ok! The side and the wheel will buff out with scratch and swirl remover or some cleaning products for sure. Is the bumper clip broken or just popped out? could be salvaged maybe

Another reason I hate NJ even though something like that can happen anywhere. I'm really glad you're okay man. That's the most important part for sure!

It definitely looks like all cosmetic thankfully. I could probably clean it up pretty well but I'm leaving it as is to see what I can wrangle out of insurance.

I'm obviously upset, but thankful that I was at least able to time the bounces so it hit the bumper and not the windshield.

Thanks again guys will update when she's all better.

+1 on buffing out.

May be some damage to the paint, but there is a great chance that's just rubber that can rub out. Maybe even a magic eraser will handle it. LOL

Most of it can be buffed out for sure. Up close you can see there are a couple spots with cracks and scrapes though. I'm gonna push for a strip and re-paint then use the cash to grab an IPL from ebay. They have em in K23 (silver) now so I see no reason not to.
