I always end up puting a reusable dry panel filter in eventually. I currently have the r2c panels. I just vacuum them out every so often when im cleaning the car.
For paper filters, i usually use Napa Gold, which is a store-branded wix filter.
Also on a side note. I took mt old filters to a master mechanic friend of mine just to see if he could give me a bit more insight and the first thing he asked was "When did you drive through water?" He told me that the only reason filters bowl and wrinkle like that is when they get wet. He also told me that it doesn't have to be deep water even, just curb high water is enough for cars as low as mine to get this issue. I haven't driven to high water but we have had a lot of rain here in Houston and I did drive through some water but nothing that I was concerned about but I guess it was enough.

It's just a concentrated detergent package. Its far more likely to have no effect than to harm anything. Just get one with high PEA content like chevron techron, gumout multi-system or redline sl1. It won't fix everything, but i notice a modest improvement in idle smoothness after a tank full. Granted, that could just be the upper cylinder lubricant that most of these contain
