Trading 335i in for g37 , have a few questions

What's up guys, I've been researching and gathering all the info I need . I currently own a 2007 bmw 335i, and as much as I love the power and speed, I hate the reliability. The car has been amazing for the few times that it works...I know sux to even say that, but the final straw was when my transmission went out on me at 80k miles. So I'm 100% sure of trading in and looking to get a G37..the question I'm asking is are they major diffrence from the x, s ....I know it's suspension and brakes ..but I mod my cars as soon as I get them, so I'll probally be lowering and changing stuff up anyway. I know the G's have a **** load more of a reliability factor ,but just any advice on what to look out for, what goes wrong and whats best to hop into . I'm from NYC...Westchester county...roads are whatwver I just avoid the bad spots I know. Thanks in advance. I'm definitely excited to get a G soon

Welcome to the site. We had an 02 745Li so I know where you're coming from, great cars when all is well but can take you to the poor house in a hurry once they get some age.

As far as the Gs, if you don't mind running a snow set in the winter then I'd look for a RWD Coupe or Sedan w/ the S package, the big brakes and limited slip rear differential alone are worth the price premium.

The AWD X coupe w/ Sport pkg also has the big brakes but not the AWD X Sedan w/ sport pkg, odd but true

G/L w/ your search, let us know how it turns out.

Yea I'm leaning to the s coupe ..I could care less about the snow lol I know these cars aren't fast, but one of the best looking in my book. Im at 420 whp in my 335i , 60% e85 daily mix. Any years G's to avoid?

Yeah those 335s are much easier to make power for a lot less $$ than squeezing HP out of our NA VQs.
As far as years to avoid, not really, but getting one w/ some factory warranty remaining would obviously be a plus.

420whp that's nice. No wonder you don't think these cars are fast. S coupe would be a great choice. Saves $ on modding since you don't have to get a BBK.

I think most of us will agree with you that the G's are one of the best looking rides out there. Sorry you had so much trouble with your Bimmer.

Thanks man. Yea it's a love hate relationship, and I'm tired of dumping money into unessary repairs etc. This is why I'm getting a G.....can imagine very minimal repairs regular wear and tear etc...and gives me a ln opportunity to mod cosmetically instead of fixing water pumps , turbos every other month lol

Yeah modding is expensive enough without having to pay for repairs lol.

Just so you know how reliable these cars are...or have been for me anyway. I owned a G35 for almost 9 years. Never any trouble at all. I've had my G37 for a little over a year now and of course it's had zero trouble. As of right now I'm an infiniti man for life!!

Get the Sport 2011+, trust me you don't want to go through the hassle like me purchasing things I wish I would have gotten in one buy. BBK, Suspension, Spoiler, Unique front bumper etc.. Although you can buy them later on it's just not worth it.

I must warn you, the G will disappoint you in terms of response to mods and low end torque compared to your beamer. The X is an AWD so you need to decide if you need that (a bigger pain to modify though)

He's right ^^^. Get an IPL. Had I gotten an IPL I would've saved $600 on a front bumper., $400 on IPL side skirts, $780 on bbk, $80 on SS lines. Those are used prices too. So basically double it if you buy everything new and that's the mods you choose. Just food for thought.

But had I saved that $$$ I would've almost certainly spent it on other mods.

Don't get an IPL if you plan to modify the car. IPL is nothing but a weak exhaust upgrade, some bumpers/sideskirts, weak tune and red seats. You can get all of that but better and cheaper if you go aftermarket.

Also turbocharged cars do wear out components much quicker, my old G35 was heavily modified NA engine and nothing ever broke on it. My new G37 is twin turbo and same components only last half the mileage on a turbo car. That's the nature of turbocharging.

I recommend you get an S model which will give you nicer seats, VLSD, big brakes, thicker sway bars, nicer wheels, better steering feel, nicer looking bumpers, etc. If you are going with auto, get 09 or later as 08 was a 5AT and later models are 7AT, for 6MT year doesn't make a difference.

buy G37S, buy extra set of 'winter tires', stop modding, take money you would have wasted on modding, and go autocrossing or to vegas instead . . . , wipe hands on pants. Done
