I've been looking at some with 50k-60k miles because it's in my budget... Is it a mistake to get a car with this many miles? Or will these cars run fine to high mileage with regular maintenance?

I just bought one with 70k on it. I'm not worried.

The VQ motor is one of the worlds best engines in terms of stock performance and reliability. Keep up on standard maintenance and you'll be fine.

If you don't mind, what year/model and how much? Also how many miles do these engines usually last before big problems?

2008 G37s Coupe. Fully loaded and the rare Vibrant Red. I think I paid like 17.2 plus tax/tag/title. Somewhere around there.

As far as major problems, I had a Nissan Maxima with the VQ30 motor, the 2 generation previous motor and it ran until ~170k before big problems started. My dad owns an Infiniti M35s with the VQ35 which is the last generation of the VQ motor and he's at 90k with no major problems.

Family has had 230k on a VQ30, motor was still great! rest of the car was failing :-P and 120k+ on a VQ35HR (zero issues, still own), and 65k+ on a VQ37 (still own, just getting started)

Keep up with maintenance, it will run forever

50k miles is not many miles for most cars. I bought my 08 G37 at about 87K miles, nearing 100K now and it runs just as well as all the 30k mile VQs I hang out with.

xnick, these are the kinds of post I like to see. I bought my G with 68K miles and a clean carfax. Just turned 80K so it looks like I have a lot of reliable driving to go.
