Potholes....Potholes Everywhere!!!

I ran over a snow covered pothole the size of a moon crater. It's literally 4-ft wide and a good 8-10" deep. If it wasn't for my seatbelt, I think my head would have crashed against the roof of my car.

The constant snowstorms this winter have really destroyed all the roads here in New England. I bet there are tons of damaged cars by springtime this year.

Luckily, my passenger's side front and rear tires didn't pop. The rims weren't bent or cracked, either, as there's no loss of tire pressure. Beyond that, I don't know if my car has suffered any damage. It's still driving straight. There's no pull or vibration. No weird noises or anything like that. Yet.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. But that pothole was no joke. I was driving no more than 15-20 mph, and then bam! I've hit potholes plenty of times before, but the one I hit yesterday was the mother of all. All the snow and slush hid the damn thing pretty well...until I hit it and it was too late.

What you described (I assume exagerated) wasn't a pothole...that was a damn kiddie pool on steroids! Glad there was no real damage to the car, I have hit small potholes before and bent the ish out of my rims. It pisses me off too, but you got lucky! Be careful out there

When you get a chance I'd put the car on jackstands or take it to a shop w/ a lift just to be sure. That sounds like one helluva sinkhole

And watch your sidewalls for any bubbles or bulges. A belt may have broken and you don't see it yet.

driving in the winter is horrible when it snows alot, i have seen two huge and deep potholes and there really isn't a way to avoid it without maybe causing an accident ... i just avoid those roads even though i have to take a longer one :/

I agree that when you get some time have the car looked at. Many times these things don't show up right away.

Yep, and unlike steel undercarriage the cast aluminum pieces don't really bend, they crack or come apart in chunks

Yup, I'll have the car looked at later when it gets much warmer. In the meantime, I'll keep an eye on anything that's unusual. Thanks for the advice, guys. And oh, that pothole was big enough to swallow 2 or 3 orange barrels, no problem.

Exactly this! I live in San Diego- although there isn't any snow or freezing, the roads are absolutely BRUTAL. (Originally from Chicago) I take certain roads because I know exactly where the holes are and where you're going to scrape on the dips.

I miss AZ- the roads were glorious!
