The release latch in the passenger compartment worked fine and the hood popped up a bit. I slipped my hand in the gap, reached for the center latch, and pressed up but was unable to move it enough to unlatch it. I didn't see much to press on with a screwdriver to help. What should I do?

I have noticed in the past that this latch is rather "wobbly" in that it rotates about multiple axes and not just the pivot for it's release.

 

I notice you're in Canada, so it could just be on the edge of the adjustment and sticking due to the cold. Have you tried it after driving and when everything under the hood is warmed up real good? The other thing that can affect the adjustment is if the car is not parked on an even plane. Sometimes it will stick if the frame is twisted slightly after parking on an irregular surface.
