Opinion...

Would you choose a 2008 g37s or 2011 g37 journey?

S all day. No question asked. Sport tuned suspension. Standard features that would be optional to the journey, possible 6mt, staggered 19 inch wheels. Yeah I have a g37s 6mt. And in the event it gets sold, I'd buy another g37s 6mt....

Just going by equipment the S, but mileage, general condition and having warranty time would play a part in the decision.
If a 6MT is high on your list of priorities than the S is a must.

Only 6MT. Unless it has high mileage. Then I would wait until a good one is available.

Careful now, you’re asking a younger crowd that prefers the S by an overwhelming majority, so objectivity may not be in play here and you should take that into consideration.

What's the asking price and mileage on both? Are you gonna mod? If so 1 point for the G37S bc the calipers are a grand easy...just a little food for thought there. But if it were me I would buy whichever vehicle had lower mileage and take all of the qualities that Blnewt mentioned.

S

The faster ratio steering, larger brakes, and LSD alone make it worth it.

Both are basically out of warranty, the 2011 does have 3k miles left on the warranty though. Are either cars certified? Even though the mileage is the same, there will likely be additional maintenance (to some degree) on a car that is 3 years older.

Overall, these cars are very reliable, so either car is a fine choice. What it comes down to is, would you rather:

A. Have a "newer" car with the separate fog lights in the bumper and 3k miles of warranty and forego the larger brakes, tighter seats/steering, limited slip diff., paddle shifters, and red S then select the 2011.

B. Have the larger brakes, tighter seats/steering, limited slip diff., paddle shifters, and red S and forego the "newer" car with separate fog lights in the bumper and 3k miles of warranty then select the 2008.

Both car's are VERY similar and the "typical driver is going to have a hard time knowing their car has larger brakes, tighter steering, and a limited slip differential while using their car as a daily driver. With this being said, you are better off with the newer 2011 if you like the way the car looks and want to buy, drive it and be happy. If you ever see yourself modifying the car or driving it at or near it's limits, you will probably be happier in the 2008 sport.

Not all of us that prefer the 6mt are part of the younger crowd. I'm 68 and I still enjoy rowing through the gears. I have 3 cars all of them are manuals.

Oh boy. This is slowly becoming not only an S vs. nonS thread, but also an AT vs. MT thread.

Doesn't EVERY thread eventually? Most often by the same initiators from both sides. It's so damn tiring.

OP, for all the lack of any pertinent information you've given us on either car or your criteria for what you need in the car, my opinion is to flip a coin. Or buy them both and then sell the one you like least.

Now we just need someone to chime in and say the nonS sedan is the fastest due to being 100 lbs lighter and having less rotational mass. Then we have a thread!

Go with the red one. Or the white one. If neither are red or white, then settle for silver. If they are none of these colors, keep looking. Welcome.
