Advice/Recomendations
New time member to the forum, but I have used this site as a search function for over a month now. Was hoping to get some advice on which G37 coupe to purchase.
A little backstory. I initially planned on purchasing a G35 back in 09 while I was stationed in Germany, but those plans fell through when I get an assignment to Grand Forks. I thought I would need a SUV/Truck due to all the horror stories I heard about life in Grand Forks. So I purchased a Jeep Liberty and hated it for three years. Got tire of the MPG so I decided to go back to my original plan. Well, due to no Infinity dealerships in a a 150 mile radius I decided to go with Subaru and purchased a BRZ last year. With snow tires it performed better than my Jeep with all seasons.
Great car, but extremely underpowered and the lack of a functional back seat has persuaded me to trade it in after winter. Now that Im back on track I will be purchasing a G37 but have a few questions.
1. Moonlight White is my first choice due to how easy it is to maintain cleanliness or at least the illusion of cleanliness with a white car. Any recomendations for a second and third choice that is just as easy to maintain?
2. The majority of G37's around this area are the AWD models. Do you think it would be worth it to wait for a sport of journey versus just picking up the AWD model? After my BRZ I have come to find out that with snow tires any RWD vehicle is more than capable during the winter and AWD is not required.
3. The reliability of Japanese vehicles is renowned, but is there a max for mileage you would recommend staying under when deciding to purchase?
4. Is nitro-meth really only for pu$$*#$?

Hate to say this but search the AWD v RWD with snow tires. LOTS of opinions on it. You have first hand experience about one side of the equation.
As for color- white is a great low maintenance color. That's on our QX and it looks beautiful in the sunshine and wears well when it's dirty. Silver and the darker grey are also rather low maintenance. My Q7 is a darker grey and it wears well. My red is easy to keep looking clean as well. Black is definitely not easy to maintain but looks outstanding when it's clean.
Can't speak to maximum mileage, but I expect to hit 150K easily on my G.

are you in grand forks ND? no infiniti dealerships in 150m radius makes sense for that city. I am nearby in Winnipeg, and drive awd with snow tires in winter
the rwd cars have the benefit of more front shock options, and you can also get an S model with big front brakes.

RWD with snow tires will not make your G a DD in the winter when it snows. For us it was "if I got stuck in weather that wasn't forecasted". If you are going to need to drive it every day in wintery conditions, get the AWD and even consider putting winter tires on that.

Yep, in Grand Forks. Folks here tend to favor Ford and Dodge so not having an Infiniti Dealership is kind of expected.

Just curious, but why wouldnt the RWD with snow tires on the G37 be suitable for a dd? My BRZ handles extremely well with snow tires during the winter and is my daily driver. I've been lucky enough to never get stuck, but I would guess with the AWD it would be even less likely. Thanks for the info though.
) but there are strong opinions on both sides of the fence. If I'm you, and I'm planning to keep the G for a few years, I get the AWD and get ready to order snow tires. I'd rather have and not need than wish I had.
We had a ton of snow here last winter, probably similar to you, and my car (lowered) on snow tires had no problems at all.
People have driven rwd cars in winter for years, even before/without snow tires! Some cars are better/worse in it, but as long as you can drive for conditions you should manage. I really can't imagine the BRZ being better than the g37 in snow. short wheel base rwd light weight does NOT make for optimal winter driving!
I'm in grand forks a few times a year (gotta get my cheap liquor at happy harrys!) so I'm familiar with the climate
yeah it's a small city and infiniti is pretty niche I guess. We have infiniti in Winnipeg (I'd bet it's the closest dealership to you) but I've never actually been there myself. I bought my car online, and use my corner mechanic for all work.

Granted I had some sand tubes in the trunk, but it handled perfectly with snow tires. Thanks for the vote of confidence in the RWD G37 in snow conditions.

There is a slight (huge actually) difference in power to the wheels in a G vs. your BRZ. Like others have said, tons of posts on the subject and there are many more posts suggesting get the AWD vs. RWD for area's with lots of snow. I have a M37x and the the AWD still offers plenty of power. Coming from a BRZ any Infiniti will be a world of difference power wise.
Side note ... saw a BRZ in a parking lot and thought to myself that's a nice looking car. When I looked up the 0-60 numbers for it I was shocked how under powered it is.

One of the reasons I'm getting rid of it. Great car, handles like a dream and fun to drive, but for $29K they should have added a turbo/went with a bigger engine to give it at least 250 horsepower. The lack of options is pretty pathetic? Told myself I would never purchase a new car again and did exactly that.
You want to buy my car at $2K over bluebook so I can break even? Will throw in some winter tires and two sand tubes
I guess you don't want to end up like this?
just to qualify my earlier posts, I drive an AWD, but figure that the RWD is probably manageable as long as you have your expectations set right
they have a lot of potential, but yeah SO underpowered. Very similar to a lotus elise/exige, I'd bet

That looks like me when I returned from my deployment. Stored the car in my garage with the stock tires which happen to be summer wear. Arrived back in January, and I got stuck halfway out my garage on the way to the dealership to have my winter tires put on. Had to back out of my apartment complex in reverse, and it took me twenty minutes to drive five miles with those tires.
