2008 G37 with 88K miles for $16K - Buy it?

That price is drive out.

I am tempted to buy this car after driving it for 2 minutes... didn't take it back to dealer for over a half hour I was having so much fun!

Body and interior is very good to almost perfect(Red w/ tan leather). Engine and tranny runs perfectly as best I can tell. Braking is steady. Rear tires are new and front tires have about another 10K miles on them.

My guess is that this is a base model with sunroof and ride control?

My Primary (only?) concern is dependability.
Should I be worried about this car needing repairs or constant mechanical attention now that it is approaching 100K in miles?
I found a good Infinity mechanic through one of my friends who has a 2013 G37 Journey 4 door which he LOVES!
He said that infinity's are very dependable and much less to repair than say a BMW.

Is what I heard about this car and Infinity true?
Should I get this car?

Thank you so very much for your help and advice!!!

Not a bad deal. Is there any service history on it? Spend another 3k though and you may be able to find one in the 50-60k mile range.

The Carfax shows no problems but no service notations(other than inspection/emissions and maintenance inspections) except for these:
2/2009 - First owner, first title applied
5/2012 - 47,914 miles - oil and filter change, brake pads replaced
7/2012 - Second owner
12/2012 - 61,176 - Oil and filter change
6/2013 - 71,662 - Oil and filter change
2/2014 - car bought at auction by current dealer
5/2014 - inspection and emissions passed

This car has been on this dealers lot since February.
Do these cars generally make it to 120K without major problems?

I have a loan for $15K so this is the most G37 I can probably afford to buy right now.

If you are currently paying a $15k loan I don't think strapping yourself with that car is a good financial decision. If you had no other debt it would be fine. You have to plan that it will need something and if you're short on money you'll be driving nothing. Better to wait. They always appear and when you're ready they will be there.

Infiniti's are very dependable, that's about the mileage we have on our 2008 and not a single issue.

If you are going to hang out here, it's Infiniti and not Infinity. :-)

I had 175K on my old G20 before a soccer mom blew a red and took me out. 86K on our QX56.

LOL at the "Infinity" comment- unless you're driving a speaker since Infinity is an audio electronics company.

Ugh, sorry about that... Infiniti, embarrassing.

Thanks to everyone for all the help and great advice!

We're buying this car to replace a second car which my wife totaled and it will be used primarily for date night and for short trips every day to my wife's work.

We started out looking at sensible options like Altima's and such and ended up looking at convertibles and coupes from BMW, Infiniti and a few other imports.

We have our choices down to the G37 in this thread and an 08 Volvo C70 with about the same milage but $4K less than the G37.

So, out choice comes down to wind in our hair versus blood pulsing through our veins.

Thanks again for the help!

No worries on the name! Lots of folks do it...

Quite a jump up from an Altima to G or C70. I can't imagine the Volvo's reliability compares to Infiniti. Plus isn't that C70 rather dated and on the back end of it's production run. At least the G was/is the first year in the model run.

Good luck!

WHOA!!!
I'm PSYCHED!

I just found a private sale 09 G37S with only 66K miles for $13K.
Only downside is that it isn't red... it's gray/silver.
Owner says it is perfect and has blue title.

Taking wife to see and drive it at noon.... wish me luck! :-)

Looks nice... but spoke with owner again and he tells me it is a blue title but is is rebuilt? He says the engine and tranny have 66K actual miles on it.

I am wondering if I can get financed on this car if it is listed as being rebuilt?

What else do I need to find out before buying a "rebuilt" G37?

Thanks again!

That's some risky business. Blue title normally means salvage. Don't let the exterior get cha. Make sure she's clean on the inside as well.

Possibly run it to a dealership. Have them do a full point inspection. $150 for a piece of mind. I had a lemon 370z which I wish I did the inspection on. Thought I was getting some out of this world deal.
