manual center console swap
manual center console swap
Hey guys I have a 09 chipped g37s so it is pretty fast with the 7 speed tranny and paddle shifters. I am always tearing up the streets and taking corners pretty hard and was thinking that if I swapped in a manual center console instead of my auto I would be able to introduce a little bit of a slide with the hand brake and then drift it a bit.
Has anybody ever done this? It looks like it should be a fairly simple swap except for the gear indicator but I really don't need that and incorporate the shifter to fit in the leather boot just as if it was a manual and then have a hand brake instead of a foot parking brake. I think I am going to see about finding the parts and giving it a try. Will take pictures when I am done.

Not to sound old, but you gotta be a little more responsible on the road man. I understand turning hard, we all do it, but forcing a drift on the streets can end pretty bad. I would suggest for your sake and the rest of the world driving near you to keep your console as is and make it as difficult as possible for yourself to do such actions.
I love your enthusiasm and would love to see this done! However, I have a couple questions.
1. What do you mean chipped g37s?
2. What do you mean chipped g37s?
I expected this from someone with fewer than 10 posts. Now I will check your previous 135.

LOL yea i drive hard on the track and off. It is just part of me. I race a Spitfire with a
rotary in it when I am not tracking the G37.
Macintos: when I say chipped I mean the car has a professional tune. Z1 motorsports did it and wow did it wake the car up.

I don't want any of this to sound condescending, it isn't. Your car, you're free to do whatever you want with it, but I highly doubt you're out on a racetrack or an airstrip. This car isn't particularly fast, but I have yet to find anywhere on the road to reach its potential. Wish you safety, good health, and lots of happy memories in your Infiniti.
I say go for it bro. if it makes u happy. just make sure to post after pics back in this thread. and people he wasn't asking yalls permission to drive his car in a spirited way. he asked a question that has not been answered yet.

I did the swap, but that's because I swapped the transmission too.
A few points to keep in mind:
1) The AT and MT gear lever positions are not exactly the same.
2) The parking brake cable is different on the MT and its mount that goes below your armrest will not bolt on directly.
3) The parking brake does not bolt up directly either.
4) Cable operated hand brakes are not designed to lock your rears when in motion, it's only a matter of time before your cable loosens up or the brake pad wears out. If you're serious about drifting look into a hydraulic setup.

Gorilla were not telling him what to do, just suggesting to be safe thats all. Some pretty crappy things can happen on the streets so doesn't hurt to hear the voice of reason from others once in a while.
