Take out spare tire for extra lower weight?

Did you guys remove the spare tire in the back for the light extra speed or not? Just wondering if I should do the same.

At the track, yes. For everyday driving? Hell no.

The spare tire and all the associated junk in the trunk is less than 1.5% of the vehicle's sprung weight. Not sure if worth the hassle even on a track.

Everytime I took the spare out and go to the track my times where slower, and when I leave it in my times where faster so I guess for me it helps with traction.

I took mine out. I didn't have a spare in my last car. I had a goo kit & compressor. Never had a problem in 3 years. So I keep the goo kit in the car & the spare, jack & lug wrench sits in my garage. Unless I plan on a road trip.

I had the tire out for a couple of months but then I put it right back in; didn't really make a difference for me; so now I have some peace of mind.

I don't think the tire alone makes a big difference. I removed the rear seat, the tire, the two plastic panels around the tire along with the jack. I did this for a few days while a took my time wiring in my audio equipment. With all that out of the rear end the car did seem a bit lighter but it could have been a placebo affect due to the louder road noise w/ less noise deadening....

As many have said its not enough weight to make a big difference so prolly leave it in for the safety in case of flat....

I was amazed at how big the trunk really is with out those retarded plastic panels in the way.... I have thought about fabricating a base to put at the bottom of the trunk and doing away with the panels...

What about all of you with custom 20s...do you still have the spare in there? I cant imagine it would help you out with a flat.

Took mine out for my air and hardwood trunk set up. Been fine so far but I bring my spare with me if I go on longer trips. If I ever do get a flat I guess I can always use AAA.

Your trunk is now begging for a surge tank! Goodbye fuel starvation!

AAA makes spare tires and all that stuff irrelevant. especially at $50 a year for membership...

Every 100lbs is equal to .1 in the qtr.....roughly..so I have read.

Removing such items at the track is a common practice.

One of the main problems is that the G37 weight distribution is 54/46, which is absolutely retarded IMO. Reducing the weight is going to skew the proportions even more towards the front. Personally, I think the car is more predictable and easier to handle with some weight in the back.
