Towing with a U-Haul Trailer

Has anybody had any experience with the U-Haul trailer long distance behind a U-Haul moving truck? Kind of nervous transporting my coupe a semi long distance (SoCal to NorCal ~ 400 miles). Any tips, tricks, or recommendations?

MODs sorry if this is in the wrong sub-forum. Did an advance search and did not find any threads on this.

I do not recommend trying to use the two wheel version of the towing platform. Get all four wheels on a trailer, and you should be fine.

Also make sure to use quality ratchet straps and cross strap. If you don't have the rite ones see if they rent them. You have proper easy to find points under the car, you cant miss them. They look like the one behind the drivers side rear under the car .

Safe travels and good luck with your move.

Have done it a few times, and as stated above, it was a full car carrier and not a two wheel dolly.

I used the full carrier to tow a Miata from New York to Florida. Three days on I-95 and not a single issue. The car is lowered and I was still able to drive it right on the trailer without lengthening the ramps. Once you strap down the front wheels, it ain't goin' nowhere! I would do it again without hesitation.

I used the U-Haul full car carrier, but I had to remove my front bumper because my car is lowered, but if yours is not lowered you should be ok.

I did the same trip Socal to Norcal and used the full trailer pulling my Galant. It was very easy to do...just make sure you tie the car down tight. Don't want any mishaps on the 5. Good luck. Where in Norcal you moving to?

Easter Bay Area Hayward to be exact. Saw a thread about meet ups out there hope to see/meet more people out there SoCal meet ups were always so far for me to be able to attend.

Another random question, which is probably a dumb one. But I have a car cover that I've never been able to use. Seems like a bad idea (be a big old parachute) but just wanted some thoughts on whether or not I should cover it during the move. Or if I do decide to do it would using some straps around it in a cross fashion like wrapping a present will help?

the moving truck will block most things from hitting the car. It should be fine naked. I grew up in Hayward...welcome to the Bay Area!

Once you're in Hayward, you'll need to call freeways by their names. There is no "the 80" or "the 5" up here. It's "I-80" or "I-680" or "I-5." I've never understood how southern Californians started calling freeways "the 405" and "the 5."

Good luck with "the move."

Haha ya I know I was actually born and raised in Fremont. I never understood the "them SoCal people use either... But the freeways down here just sound weird without "the" for some reason haha
