Looking to buy a G37 Coupe, what's your input?

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a car and ideally it'll be a G37 coupe. I found one that seems to be a pretty good deal. It's an 08 with only 31,000 miles on it and is listed for 18,000 but the dealer offered it for 16,900 when I called him. I'll take a look at it on Friday but was wanting to know whether you guys think the price is good and what you think of the front grill.

Thanks!

P.S. links to the vehicle

First thing I would do is go to like KBB.com and try to figure out what it's "worth". There are a couple different options such as: What's it worth to private seller? What's it worth on a trade-in? blah blah blah

Fill out the forms as if you already owned the car and were just curious.

Yep find comparables. Just google what's my car worth. Also I don't like the grill or inserts. That would be corrected right away if I bought it. Low miles for an 08. Looks clean. Decide what you want to pay and see if the dealer will take it as long as the car is clean.

Hey guys, thanks for your replys.

When I check the value of the car it comes to 18 to 22 thousand depending on which site I check the value which is what is making it seem like a good deal to me.
As for getting a better equipped G37, while I would love to, I don't have the money to spend. I was actually looking for an accord coupe or civic to buy but if I think I can get a good deal on this G37 i'll get it as I am not wanting to spend more than 17,000 on a car, I'm only a 17 year old kid after all.

Have you popped the hood yet?

Another good question, the ad says they are motivated to sell, always ask why. You may get a bs answer, you may get "it's none of your business", you might find out he is having mechanical issues. It's always worth asking, worse case scenario, you find out nothing

The grill is aftermarket, badges are gone and probably not the only thing the owner did...it could be though. With those things done I assume the owner was younger. I feel if someone mods the car, they most likely beat on it....that's what I do, but I also beat on it when it was stock.

The most important thing is to run a Car Fax and if possible bring it to a Nissan or Infiniti dealer to have them look at it or at the very least give one of the fore mentioned dealers the VIN number and see if the warranty was voided for any reason.

If everything works out, it looks like a good deal. I personally wouldn't go older than 2010, but it's a personal opinion. It does have lower miles If you're not sure about this one wait. There will always be a good deal when you're ready, listen to your gut

This is strictly my opinion, do what you want and what feels right for you. Good luck!!

I would also recommend calling your insurance agent and checking on pricing to get into the G. I got my 08 37S last year with 50k and was surprised to find out the premiums are more per month than my 2013 Honda Pilot which is a $35k car. I am also in my 40s so I know you being 17 the difference in insurance premiums alone may make you decision for you to continue looking at Honda's. I love my car and plan to keep it for a while but just remember you need to look at everything when buying it. the cost of the car is just the first step. Then you have gas(it takes premium) tires(just spend over $800 for new tires) insurance, tags. All these thing will cost you more with the G than they would a one of your other options. Do you have that figured into your budget?

Not yet Vance67, If I decide to look at the vehicle it will be tmrw. And I called up the infiniti dealership and they want 130 for an inspection which I will pay for if the vehicle looks to be good. As for why he is motivated to sell, I'll ask although probably get a B.S. answer.

Hey Bill, I figured the insurance would be a bit more than a typical car but I didn't realize it would be more than even a new car. I'll call to get a quote and go from there.

Honestly, I would hold off on getting the G right now well at least the 37. Unless your parents are going to pay for your insurance, I feel you should get a totally different car. The rates are going to really expensive man. If you just have to HAVE a G look for a nice G35 and pay for it in full with cash. The insurance still may be expensive but it won't be nearly as much as a financed G37

I would get it inspected. I'm not sure what the prices go for now or how good/crappy of a deal I got on mine, but I got my 2008 5AT last May 20th in a private sale, with 53k miles for 21.5k after taxes. 16,900 for a G with 31k miles seems a little too good to be true. Not saying it's not clean, but be cautious and get the inspection done.

I think it is a good price because its the base of base model. Look at center console.. doesn't even have heated seat options nor sunroof, i didn't even know they made that trim.

Thanks everyone for responding, I checked out the car and the interior is a bit rough. Leather is a little worn and the chrome is scratched up. On the outside There's rust under the hood and a few noticeable scratches on the body. I'm going to pass on the car and go for something cheaper and a bit more economical for my college years.

Smart move; you'll have plenty of time (and more $!) for toys once you get through school!

Get a G sedan. The performance is very close. The trunk is huge. 4 doors lowers your insurance and if you baby it during college it will last
