Rust on door panel directly under side view mirror

Washed my car yesterday and noticed a small spot of rust on the door panel right underneath where the side view mirror is.

Please see attached pictures.

Strange thing is, I'm getting this rust spot at the same location on both door panels! Both rust spot directly underneath where the side view mirror mount contact the door panel.

Car was purchased new in 2010 and never been into an accident.

Is the door panel rusting, or perhaps metal shaving from the brakes, or something else?

Anyone seen this before?

Thank you.

Take it back to the dealership. See if they will cover it under warranty. If not, take it to a shop to get it treated. It shouldn't cost too much now since it's small but left untreated could eat up your car.

Dealer should cover it.

My paint is cracked about half an inch wide in that same spot on my 2010 liquid platinum sedan. I hit it with some oem touch up paint and haven't had a problem since.

Hi,

How long ago did you touch up that area?

Also, do you have a picture of the repaired area?

Thanks

Will do. I have an appointment for April 22. My car is still under warranty. Dealer said they will have to take the side view mirror off and inspect that area on the door panel.

At the moment, the service adviser thinks it is one of the mounting bolt rusting. If so, will replace bolt. However, if it is rust on door panel, then they will either touch up paint the area (if it is a very small area), or repaint the entire door panel if the rusted area is too big.

I will update after my appointment...
