Might trade my G37S for M235i. Opinions needed!

I would hope the 2014 328i has more tech than a 9 year old G35 : P

Honestly, i would rather get the 4 series (435i and above) The M235i is fast and all but it looks too girly. Idk, just my opinion.

The funny thing is that you still need to pay extra for a backup camera on a "premium" car.

the 2 series is smaller and a bit more girly looking than the G37, it is quick tho. I wouldn't trade the G for it, maybe if they have crazy leases on them. I would aim more at the 435 if I ever wanted a bmw, but the steering kills it for me.

For my next car, I'm seriously considering the 2015 2.3 Turbo Mustang or if Mazda does re does the Speed 6 (yeah, keep dreaming). But I might stray away from the luxury market though. Not sure.

If the statement I bolded above is true, be prepared for a big loss when you go to trade in. Considering the base price of the M235i being $43,100 and your car is probably worth $29-34k trade in, depending on packages/options/miles. Well, you can't measure happiness in dollars.

As far as BMW goes, I have a hard time forgetting about how many lemon 335i's I ran into while car shopping.

As others have stated, I would personally rather go with the 435i. The 235i is an awesome car though and if I'm correct in assuming it uses the same power plant as the 135i and the 335i, it has some serious potential when it comes to making power.

Girly looking car or not, those motors with meth, JB4, downpipes, good tires, intake, and exhaust are scary. I love my G, but they would tear all of us a new one.

OP, I'd still keep the G though. Especially if yours is a 6MT. You'll be taking a huge hit on the trade-in. I would wait it out for a few more years and get some use out of your current vehicle.

Thanks to every one who has thus far expressed their opinions. Please keep them coming!

Yeah as several of you have mentioned, the depreciation hit is going to make me cry lol. On the flip side, if I were to definitely move forward with this would it not be better to trade in early since I will get more for the trade?

The 435i is also on my mind, but when I did a side by side comparison, I found that the 435i will cost about $6k more than the M235i with the same packages. I'm kinda disappointed with BMW in this regard since those extra $6k isn't really buying me anything more other than the body style and about 100 lbs more weight. I think the 435i had one or two more features but it was very marginal. I also do not think I can order a 435i with a mechanical limited slip differential. Can any one confirm if this is true or not?

Based on the specs of the M235i, I'm sure the acceleration and handling must be fantastic. However, I just configured an M235i on the BMW website. I optioned it out with essentially the same equipment I have in my G37xS and the M235i came to almost $52,000. Based on your comment about it being very reasonable, I was expecting a well-equipped M235i to cost around $45,000. I find it amusing when BMW advertises their vehicles showing the base price. Then when you go to option one out, you need to add $10K-$15k to the base price to get one decently equipped.

If it's sheer performance you're after, I say go for it. However, for $52K there are a lot of other cars that give you more for your money.

I totally agree with this statement. That is another thing I dislike about the BMWs. It seems like almost all other luxury auto makers have included features such as auto-dimming mirrors and keyless entry as standards but BMW requires the purchase of a package for them.

The M235i spec out doesnt have all the features my G has. Its pretty much just missing the Nav. I added premium package, driver assist package, heated seats, HK sound, and anti-theft. The MSRP comes out to $49,050.

But I know what you mean about overall cost. If the rear seat backs would fold down in an ISF, then I would be really tempted at finding one of those used lol.

In reference to the statement in bold, this is not necessarily true. There is a calculator that estimates depreciation: Depreciation Infographic: How Fast Does My New Car Lose Value?

Basically each year you own the car, less depreciation occurs. By buying new cars and selling them back to back, you are only owning the car in the period where it depreciates the most.

Here is an estimate based off the round price of $45k:

Name: ScreenShot2014-02-24at85310PM_zps2084914a.png
Views: 329
Size: 132.7 KB

If you bought the G37 new and have owned it for 1 year, you stand to lose about $16k, if you kept it for 4 additional years, you would only lose another $12k. If you sell the G37 for the M235i, or any car in this price range for that matter, the first year of ownership will cost you another $16k. In summary, keeping the G37 for 4 more years is less expensive than owning a new car for 1 year. Also, owning a BMW past its factory warranty is scary, so you will have much more reason to sell the BMW after the warranty period, opposed to the G.

My only issue with any BMW is why a car so expensive doesn't come with turn signals...
