Worst luck in the world
Happily driving back from lunch after enjoying some delicious egg rolls. Minding my own business at a stoplight. BAMMMMMM, few moments later I come out of my daze.

Sweet, you rear ended me lets call the cops. Cops come write guy a ticket I get all his information. Find out today hes NOT covered. This just turned a minor inconvenience into a major headache. This will require a lot more legwork to get what I deserve out of this incident; loss of value to car, medical(neck sore and stiff).
Does anyone have experience with uninsured motorist? Can I go after the owner of the vehicle as well?

Wow sorry for your G bro, this guy hit you pretty good to make that much damage, but I delt with uninsured motorists before when some douche hit my g35 while it was parked in a parking lot and no one could say anything about the car that hit me and drove off. I called the cops they gave me a police report and I called my insurance, I had to pay half of my deductible and that was 250 and the insurance covered everything else, I received a rental and chose the body shop I wanted the repairs done at. It took a while cuz the adjuster had to come out and apprize the damage. At the end my insurance never went up because it wasn't my felt and it went under a uninsured motorist claim. At the time I had Erie insurance and everything went well. Hope you get everything fixed and glad your safe! Good luck.
More than likely your own policy has uninsured motorist coverage. Check with your own agent. If the police don't know he doesn't have coverage I would call them to report it. At least let them go after this guy with the laws he broke.
Yeah luckily I live in Virginia and all motorists are required to have uninsured motorist coverage. Along with that I wont have to pay my deductible, thank god because its $500.. So that will get my g fixed. However obtaining the diminished value of the car will be a great deal of legwork and probably require small claims court.

Lets give more licenses out...Even to aliens.
Did the other driver tell you from the get go that he didn't have insurance? That's another ticket right there too.
Karma is a bi---. I can't stand when adults knowingly lie to cover their own hind quarters.

The other driver provided the insurance for the vehicle he was driving which belonged to his girlfriend I believe. Geico returned my call and said there is a problem with the policy and that they would likely get back to me after the new year. AFTEAR the new year, are you kidding me?? But I did call the officer who wrote him a ticket and let him know he was probably driving without insurance coverage.
What is the deal there in the US? Does your insurance seriously provide no cover if the at fault party isnt insured???
In Australia if you have 'fully comprehensive' insurance and not just 'third party' insurance, then it doesnt matter whether the person at fault for the accident has insurance or not. The insurance company will fix your car, no deductible is paid and then they will chase down the party at fault for their costs.
Whats the point of paying $1000+ for insurance if you have to chase down someone who causes damage to your car just because they are an idiot and dont have insurance?!?

In Virginia and many other states in the us drivers are required to purchase "uninsured driver insurance" for instances like this. So I will get my car fixed. But in the us you cannot file diminished value claim against your own insurer I believe. So to get that loss in value on my car I will now have to sue this piece of crap
