Long Term effects of G37 Q60 name change?
I am leaning to waiting for a 2014 Q60 if I keep my vehicles a long time rather than the dating of G37 name with time. What affects will the name have in time if the first few years are converted G37s to Q60 and the later years are Q60 supercoupes??

You might be right, but the Infiniti press release said: "The first model to carry Infiniti’s new Q badge will be the Q50, an all-new premium sports sedan to be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January 2013."
And further says: "Infiniti’s new nomenclature strategy will be implemented in logical stages within the existing product range..."
So they aren't being entirely clear about it. I suppose time will tell.

The update said coming 2016 which is latter part or mid summer of 2015 for the Coupe Q60 version.
The whole Q name will fall as they seem fit... we can all guess but even Car&Driver said looking at 2015 late for the new redesigned Coupe.
To the Op... you have 2-3 years to go on the redesigned model.
Ill wait 1year after its been out to get all the bugs loose...lol

How many people here bought the G37 because its name was a G37?

I think the OP is asking about how the name change will affect resale value of the G cars (I.e. will people percieve the G cars to be older/more dated/worth less than they really are once the name change happens). I don't think that's the case...I don't think the name change alone will significantly affect resale value of the G cars.

Changing the name of a model does not affect it's actual monetary value. If an iconic marque like Corvette were to change, it would be a huge uproar but the car would still be exactly the same. However all Vettes from before the name change are still the same exact cars they were before something abstract like the name of the product changed. A C6 would still sell for the same thing it sold for the day before the change.
I think some people are getting waaaay too concerned about something so incredibly minor. Are you buying a car or a name? Only with a very few elite and long standing a few car brands does the name really mean anything. For example, Ferrari. Since Infiniti has only existed since '89, its not like the brand has any iconic history that they are changing.
C'mon people!

Like others have said. When people buy a car they look at the brand and the type of car they want within that brand. The G37 will always be an infiniti. Even if they change the name

Thanks for the thoughts on the renaming of the coupe to Q60 possibly not being a big deal . To add to my dilemma I am also considering the BMW 335i coupe which for 2014 is also being redesigned and named the 435i coupe. This will differentiate the coupe from the 3 series sedans. I wonder if that’s why Infiniti also wants to go with the Q50 for the sedans and Q60 for the coupes to distinguish them more easily to the different buyers etc.

I contacted someone from Infiniti marketing Canada and asked them to verify that although there will no Coupe model change in 2014 they're going to go ahead and change the name to Q60. I told him that this is wrong on so many levels. I'm interested in a letter writing campaign to help stop this and force Infiniti to keep the name until the model changes.

that kinda sucks.. im almost debating selling my coupe for something a little less flashy and better gas mileage. dont get me wrong i love the car and handles great and has a brand spanking new clutch/tranny replaced under warranty.. but the lexus is250 has caught my eye.. and did before too just decided to stay with infiniti again (upgraded from an 05 G sedan)
