Just realized someone hit me in parking garage

On my way out to the car at lunch to grab something and notice someone parked oddly far from my car. It appears they hit my bumper due to the hand prints and wiping of surface dust/dirt. The rear panel is slightly pushed in and the bumper and panel do not match up. THERE IS NO NOTE ON MY CAR!

Should I just file a claim? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

how bad is the damage? any pics? And it all depends on if you are keeping the car or trying to sell it down the road. not sure of the amount but if you claim itwith your insurance, it will be on your record, carfax.... so your resell value will go down. But if you pay out of pocket... it won't be on the record.

Someone hit and run my G like 2 years back. I called insurance and found out my choices and will it raise my insurance amount, etc... and estimates from the body shop. estimate was like 2500-3000....so I claimed it with insurance since I was going to keep my G for long @ss time...

Good luck and hope you get that bastard!

The damage isnt too bad - just that rear panel above the wheel pushed in. I did not notice any surface scratches.

My plan is to keep the vehicle "forever."

My immediate plan is to wait in my car around 5pm when the person parked next me gets back to their car. Serenity now...

Is there any indication of damage to the car that you suspect hit you? why not just call the police and file a report? Better than you getting into it with a co-worker in the garage.

I looked at the suspecting vehicle but could not see anything. I thought about a police report but I dont believe they will be of any help.

That is not true!

Each case is different you can't compare insurance polices. It's like apples to orange!

Unless you have bad driving record or bad insurance company your rates will not go up just because someone hit you!! If that was the case everyone would be driving around with damaged banged up cars!

The resale value will not go down from just repairing the bumper.

Stay away from ACME.com insurance company's !

^ actually, it might. body damage and repair of any kind will often affect resale since the next buyer can never be 100% certain what was done and how comprehensive the repairs were. also, blending of new paint into old paint is not always seemless.

if you took 2 cars that were otherwise identical, but one had the bumper or body panel replaced and the other had no such work, most folks would pay a premium for the un-molested car. there are no question marks with that car.

Yeah I know I rather pay more for a car ( as I did) than pay for one with a shady past. Another thing, it makes me sick as I read how many people on here are saying to do certain things to avoid it being on a carfax, autocheck, etc.... Thats shady when you sell a car that has been hit, dented, repainted, etc... regardless of reason, and not inform the buyer. Please dont trying say 'oh Id tell the buyer etc..' Really? BS why hide it from a car check? It still informs the buyer of the amount of damage done. Carfax or not if your car is hit, STOP trying to hide it. Jeez.. sorry rant/end

Goodluck OP lol

If it's like very small fix under $500 all is needed is some paint and it's on the bumper I don't see that going into carfax.
