I found this piece of plastic in my driver's side footwell the other day. I doubt I tracked it into my car. I think it came from underneath the dash. Does anyone know where it goes? I have a 6MT if that matters. Thanks.

 

Carpet fastener. Mine won't stay put either. Is it from the driver's side top left area of the carpet near the hood release?

 

Holds the carpet by the fuse box in the cabin also some on the passenger side as well

 

I found it near the dead pedal, so it's probably the one you guys are talking about. I'll check the next chance I get. Thanks for the help!

So I finally got a chance to check out the footwell area yesterday. You guys were right, it was the fastener right above the dead pedal. I snapped it back on, took 2 seconds. Hopefully it'll stay put. Thanks again for the help everybody.

 

I finally got around to uploading a photo of the footwell area. I circled the fastener location in question for anyone else who might want to know.

Yeah, no worries. I pushed it on round-side down until it clicked. Good as new! I was just uploading the photo for future reference in case anyone else ever needed to know.

 

Sigh, wut da fuq is wrong with these things?? I just checked my footwell the other day for something unrelated and I noticed the same damn fastener was missing again, except it's nowhere to be found this time. I'll have to pick up one (or several) from my dealership one of these days. Does anyone know of a way to get these suckers to stay put? I don't want to leave it this way, because the carpet does seem a little loose around the dead pedal area.

 

Im thinking adding a little drop of loctite-243 after the install might do the trick.

Would that work on a plastic snap-on type of clip? I thought it was just for threaded bolts/screws.

 

In our shop we use the 243 for hard plastic as a long term temporary hold. The 243 is Medium/High Stregnth and the 242 is a med strength.
I dont know what type of plastic these fasteners are made out of but after looking at the fine print the 242 & 243 can sometimes make the plastic brittle and crack easily.
Just to be safe for this particular item a better choice might be a general purpose plastic epoxy.
