probably wont do anything to your hood paint, Kevalteam is running painted carbonfiber hood and it seems to be okay.

I'd keep it there. That engine runs very hot.

It's there to insulate both sound and heat.

Betty, so if I remove this will it hurt anything? My GTSpec is rubbing a little from it. I saw some 370z and they did not have this under there hood.

I honestly don't know for sure. I doubt it. The paint on the outside of the hood will be exposed to more heat over time. Will it hurt it? I don't think so.

You could always do what I did and sell your GT Spec and get a Cusco strut bar. It's much thinner and doesn't rub the hood liner or engine cover. Problem solved.

I once heard that the shield under the hood is actually a fire safety device. In the event of fire, that will melt and (in theory) drape itself over the fire and prevent a huge inferno. Will this actually happen when gasoline is being pumped to the fire....? I doubt it. Certainly it helps with noise though.

I dont know if is as stiff as the GT Spec one and I doubt anyone else does either unless they have the tech drawings and specs for both. It's plenty stiff enough to be functional for doing the job it's designed for. It only needs to keep the upper strut mounts from deflection on bumps or dips. It seems to be doing a good job. I've never heard of any Cusco suspension part that didn't do what it was designed to do and do it well. It certainly fits better which says something for its design.

As a bonus, it's much prettier.

They do come stock on the Z as well. At least my 370Z came with the cover.

Edit: The cover is a 2 peice unit. Thats how they allow the room for the strut bar. I can take a photo when I get home to the Z tonight.

No but it might rub a hole in your cover. I will take a photo of the cover on my Z as that might be the solution you are looking for. Maybe you can cut a slot in you cover? I don't know just throwing that out. Also may a Z cover? Yes its says Nissan on it but some like that.

I have taken mine out completely and have not had issues as of yet with the paint. My cover was scratchedd somehow pretty badly which is why I took it out. I will state that I do not often drive my car though and never too long of a trip when it does come up.
