Rwd vs awd coupe?

Just tryin to figure out why people say one is better than the other. Weather aside, why would you pick one over the other? Looking to hear some personal experiences too !

Me personally coming from fwd and awd sedans, it feels a bit weird at first getting used to Rwd.

I can only really state the obvious on this one. Places with bad weather = awd. If I would have known I would be in San Antonio later this year, I probably would have gotten the S last year. That being said, I love the X and cannot wait to turn it into a monster, AWD has it's benefits.

There's nowhere to have fun around here even the closest track is about an hour away. Haven't found any industrial parking lots and I don't plan on being reckless around here on the street, especially since I just got the G :P.

This probably isn't true but I feel like awd gives you a better feeling of safety when taking turns so I ended up taking turns faster in my awd. FWD is just crap imo, tires would spin at every darn turn and in the rain it felt like a death trap (no vdc).

to each his own........you're going to get people that come in and say RWD > AWD blah blah...real men drive RWD blah blah

however, the AWD system in the G is RWD biased. Its only AWD up to 12mph and then becomes completely RWD until it needs to send power to the front...........best of both worlds id say

AWD definately handles better and gets better traction. If you want fun though RWD is the only way to go. I have 4x4's so I don't need that crap in my cars.

I got the awd since I had a 40 minute ride to work. I've had lots of rwd cars but got tired of the wheels just spinning when trying to move from a stop on the expressway in the snow. The awd helps with that. Still I drive it like its rwd in bad weather, just because it's awd doesn't mean it will stop better. Plus it came with as tires. My 350z came with summer tires and once it got below 40 degrees, they were terrible and I don't want to have to swap the tires every winter.

I don't think one is better than the other, my priorities were different this time around.

Great responses guys! I have to agree with cnagy about the highway thing. I have an hour+ drive to school with multiple highways and I hate not being able to just floor it to merge although the acceleration of the g does make up for it if I get rolling first.

See that's the whole thing, one is not better than the other except to the person driving the car. It depends greatly on what you need the car for and what it's daily uses are going to include. Only YOU know what you need in a car.

The GTR is also 500+ HP.

Like everyone has mentioned there's pros and cons to both. The number one factor I think is climate. If you live in an area that snows regularly and your G is your daily, then you'll need the AWD. Yes, I understand there are snow tires available if you decide to go with a RWD, but it's just not the same.

RWD will trump AWD at the racetrack but how often you take your G to the track? AWD is easier to drive on any kind of weather, it gives you the confidence that the *** end won't snap at you so it makes you a bit more aggressive on the corners. I have yet to drive a G37X but I have owned quite a few AWD cars in the past. One of the things I miss from my previous car is definitely the AWD.

Take 2 equally powered cars and send them around the same curve on a race track and see who can go around faster... Same driver, same conditions, same everything...

For example a g37x -vs- a g37 rwd...

I guarantee the awd will be faster

Actually many independent track tests have shown the X to be faster around the track in wet and dry.
