deciding-rebuilt 08 g37

first off im new to the forum, and in the market for a g37. i previously owned a 06 350z coupe. well i live in vancouver bc, and their is a 08 g37s coupe for sale(rebuilt title). its an american car with 16000 miles. now the bad part is it has been hit from the right front fender ($33000) claim!!! they dont have any of the paper work for the claim so i had to run a carfax. what could have possibly been damged that caused so much damage? well i wanted to ask u guys what i should i look out for? i test drove the car and turned off vdc and the 4ways light came on(is that normal) also the steering wheel felt heavy to to turn(maybe it has something to do with the 4ways? anyways i know the claim amount is huge, but i was wondering what would u guys personally pay for a car with such a huge hit? take into consideration this is canada and 08 g37s right now clean titles are going for about 26+. im thinking if i can get it for about 20 out the door, it would be a good deal.

is there any other recalls, problems 08s are known for? (im aware of the airbag recalll# P8243 and this car recieved the repair). thanks in advance guys

I won't even bother with it. Not like it's a whole lot cheaper IMO.

Stay away from it. None of that is normal... It had to be a really big impact and damage some components under the hood for it to be $33,000. The car barely costs more than that brand new.

Check the TSB section for your service bulletin questions. If you are looking for a rebuilt title G37 I would definitely look somewhere else.

What they said, you're probably just going to inherit someone else's problems (hence it being for sale).

The claim is for the value of the car that the ins company paid to the original owner to total the car. Depending on the company the cost of the damage could have been anywhere between 50-80% of the replacement cost. The rebuilt title will make it very hard to re-sell but without a shop report finding out the damage is impossible. The carfax may have dealer reports that can point you in the right direction to find out who repaired it and what was fixed, possibly pics for the insurance adjuster. Look for alignments near the crash time on the car fax. I would stray away but if you find out the damage wasn't too extreme you nay be able to snag it got much cheaper with its history.

I was hit while parked. Not high speed (truck passing 5mph tops), fender, bumper and light were damaged. Hood not damaged, but needed to be resprayed. The body shop was able to suck out $12k from the insurance company. If I was an outside buyer I would see this and run the other way and not even consider buying the car. Being that I knew what the damage was, I wouldn't hesitate buying the car. Point is, you can never be sure. The claim amount can be deceiving. But I would definitely think twice before buying a car with that huge of a claim.

good point..... BUT if the OP can't find out exactly how the extent of the damage was. It's better to be safe than sorry, stay away from it.

Agreed. If you can't afford a new one, or at least one with a non-rebuilt title, maybe look for a different all in all? In no way is that an "attack." If the frame was damaged in anyway, you'll more than likely be paying for it in terms of extensive maintenance down the line (ie tires, alignment, etc..)

33k in damage? damn.

i'd pay a dollar for it

but seriously, you're asking for a lot of reliability issues taking on that car. you will surely run into problems in the near future and the amount of money (and time the car spends in the shop) will negate any cost savings you may be thinking of. not to mention the car likely won't be covered under warranty as well, so you'll be paying a ton out of pocket for even the smallest repairs.

Ive seen a few 08's go for 25-26k, not worth saving 3-4k maybe more if you haggle it down.
