2013 G Coupe

Saw a short teaser in the new (September 2011) Road and Track about a new G coupe. Apparently the rumor is that the IPL will have an AMG 6.2 V8. The cost? About 70 large.

Guess I'll have to start saving now.

Find it odd that Infiniti would keep stating they could make a G56 but no one would buy it then release this 6.2 AMG G on us. I suppose if they were to release it 2013 being the start of the next generation model year and using the AMG engine that they bought the rights to would make sense, seems really soon though.

I would much rather have a Infiniti build a slightly less powerful GTR V6 TT though close to M3 specs for like 65k to be competitive with the upcoming F32 M3 in performance and price.

It says in the article that it would use the 5.5L AMG V8.

In other markets, including the U.S., it will be available with the M Hybrid’s gas-electric system and AMG’s 5.5-liter V-8 that will produce upward of 360 bhp.
That doesn't make any sense to me. Why would you put in a hand built 5.5L twin turbo V8 that only make 30 more HP compared to the current engine in the G37. Hell, the 5.6L V8 in the M56 makes 420 HP.

Also, why would they use a Daimler diesel when Infiniti and Nissan just spent several years developing the new V9X diesel V6? It's already being used in diesel Infinitis, Nissans, and Renaults around the world.

The original Nissan-Renault-Daimler agreement said that Daimler would get access to Nissan-Renault's small car platforms and small engines and Daimler would help Nissan-Renault develop larger engines. So I can see Nissan-Renault getting access to some Mercedes V8s but not V6s and diesels.

I can see Daimler helping Nissan-Renault bump up the HP on the 5.6L V8 or maybe even letting them use the 5.5 AMG V8 but it'll have to be rated at 500+ HP. Even then we probably won't see the car for a couple of years.

Long story short, the article probably has a few specks of truth in there, but as it stands it doesn't make much sense.

The M hybrid makes 360hp, 3.5l V6 plus electric ..... Motor Trend got a 5.1 0-60 out of it.

I bet the G will actually look totally different from that drawing... If that IS what the G will look like then after this generation, then the G is dead. Also it appears one might have to spend 70 grand to get a next generation G that has upgraded performance over the current generation... hmmmm.. unless they decide to turbocharge the 3.5 liter.
