My 08 G37s Oil Consumption Thread
This might or might not be an oil consumption issue, but my story and interaction with the dealer will be recorded here.
Chapter 1:
My car currently has 19,000 on the clock. I am due for an oil change, but I needed to take the car from San Diego to Santa Barbara California (4 Hrs) to see family.
I am running synthetic and have been since the second oil change on the car. I read a little here and wasn't convinced that the high-ester oil really mattered.
Being that I was at 3,000 miles and needed to take this trip, I decided to check the oil, tires, and gas up before leaving town. I baby my car, but I figured a synthetic can go much longer than 3k, so I wasn't being a bad owner by taking a short trip up the coast.
When I checked the oil it was dark in color and substantially below the "low" marker. I put one court in the car and figured I was good for the journey.
When arriving in Santa Barbara, I checked the oil again after the car had sat level and cooled all the way down in the garage. I found that the oil was still reading low.
She guzzled another quart and now reads near the High marker on the dip stick.
I will go to Kearny Mesa Infiniti later this week and ask them to change the oil and begin a consumption test. As far as I can tell the car has eaten up 1-1.5 or 2 quarts of oil in the past 3,000 miles of mild driving.
