How to choose??? IPL or G37xS
I'm in Toronto too and I've never had a problem with my G37S coupe and winter tires. The only time I can notice a difference between it and my G37xS sedan is if I'm parked in deep snow and I'm trying to drive out. It sometimes takes a couple of tries with the coupe compared to the AWD sedan. However, other than that there's no real difference between the two in terms of driving in the snow.
im in Vancouver and have the x. i wish i had the xS but didnt know about it till 3 months after i got the x.
the x is awesome in the snow. i have never had a problem. van obviously has much less snow than toronto, but given the previous responses you should have no problem. i lived in mtl for 2 years and i definitely would have opted for the AWD.
i have a few friends here who have the S who give up when it snows haha. the x is awesome

If it helps, I live in Regina, Sask... we get tons of snow (record snow fall this year) and I have a G37 convertible with winters tires (Toyo observe garit kx) and my only concern is the going part. You'll see the slip light come on quite often in stop and go traffic. I never got stuck even in deep snow (just go back and forth a few times) I know Toronto winters aren't as severe as Saskatchewan.
If I was you, I'd go with the IPL. For 2K more, to me it's a no brainer. better style and performance. Just learn to have a soft foot on the pedal during the winter.

I'm in Quebec City with a G37S. Come winter i switch to 18" with good winter tires. With all the security gizmos (traction control, limited slip diff)
no problem here and we get a lot more snow than Toronto. Work place is 50 kms from home in a small town. Never had any worries. All those BMWs you see out there, a vast majority dont have awd and those cars are made in Germany. AWD is overrated in my opinion. All of those suvs i see in the ditch in winter

Most important factor to me is how does the car handle in the snow and can i stop efficiently. Not how fast i can take off from a stop.
Get the IPL.
My 2 cents

I had a similar dilemma. I do not live in Toronto, I live near Washington, DC. I opted for the XS coupe for several reasons: I do not have to buy 4 dedicated winter tires; the XS seems more stable to me. I have driven the IPL and it is very stable, but I have had RWD cars that like to "step out" under accleration in wet weather, my 08 G35S is a prime example.
I have driven several Audi and MB all wheel drive vehicles and found that they were very secure and fun at the same time.
It is a personal preference, but frankly, if you like the IPL, get it, just remember to follow SuperLeggera's advice, those tires are amazing. Summer tires are not made for the winter.

I don't like the IPL body kit. Save the 2K and get some new wheels, or lower the X. The IPL gives zero performance advantage. I'd say if you want RWD go for the RWD version and skip the IPL. If you want to stand out use the cash you saved on wheels or something better.
AWD is way better in the snow and slippery conditions. RWD is doable for sure, but if you really are worried AWD>RWD for snow. Period.
