New car registration

Sorry I wasn't sure where this thread should go so mods move to where it should go..

Anyway, so I just went to the dealership to pick up my tags and to my surprise, they gave me ones that were gonna expire in 2014. So I asked them why they gave me a 3 year registration instead of the standard new car 5 year but they had no reason. Just cuz. And that the 5 year would've been an additional $90.

So my question is: is there anyway to call my dmv and get them to change it to a 5 year one? Or is that not possible? Reason I ask is because I have tint and I'd rather not have to get an inspection in 3 years if I can go in 5 years.

Anybody know?

maybe post this in a regional forum as I have no idea which state this applies to.

You'll be fine I think. When I had my SRT8 they did the same. I had dark tints too. When my Reg. Was up DE sent me the form in the mail and I renewed it for another 2 years w/o having to bring it in. It was like 80 bucks I think.

Here in NYC, we are required to do inspection every year. I would love to do it every 3 years, but no such option here.

^ I'd like to do it tax free every 3 years too, but in GA we pay a Tag Renewal Tax plus emissions inspection has to pass yearly.

So you're saying you didn't have to bring your car in to the dmv to get it inspected?

Also, I think the dmv has been a little inconsistent with sending out their reminders. I have four cars and I don't remember the last time they sent me something in the mail...

Nope didn't have to bring in the Jeep. I think it was because it was a new car.
