Local shop fails at doing my 3m...

So i took my car to a local shop to get some 3m on the rear quarter panels, we all know how great factory infiniti protection is on the sides... anyways i got there, early for my appointment. They said that it will take 4 hours... Okay.. luckily i had some stuff to do so i went to the local coffee shop and got it done. I get back and wow it looks great! Pay my bill and go home

Today (the day after) i hit the area with a sun gun to take a better look. For one, they did NOT listen to me when i said to be very carful washing the car since it has soft paint, i JUST polished the entire car and now i have to redo each rear quarter panel because it looks AWFUL.

I specifically said "im getting rock chips on the rear quarter panels, can you look where im getting chips, since its pretty obvious where and just cover those areas with 3m?" Sounds easy enough right? Wrong again, they cover maybe 90% of the area, which is great, but hell for 160 bucks you better cover the entire area.

Finally, there is debris under the 3m, a few little pieces here and there i can deal with, i mean ive tried to put screen protectors on phones and i feel it would be pretty similar putting on 3m, so a spec here and there is fine. But there maybe 5-6 pieces on one panel, and one large piece on the other.

Needless to say, i sat around for 4 hours, paid 160 bucks, and didnt get what i wanted >.<. The upset is atleast its an improvment of regular infiniti protection but when i get a shop to do work i expect them to do exactly what i want.

Im going to call them and demand they redo it. but this time IM going to wash it before they put it on, and im going to hover of the guys shoulder until its finished. My rant for the day

Sorry man. I hope they fix it. Can you take a picture from further away? I want to see the whole picture if possible.

You should demand them to redo the damn panels. That looks terrible man. An authorized 3M dealer should be able to adequately complete the install w/o any issues. I would definitely take it back to them and make them correct their mistake.

I dont know if i want to go back, they already scratched the **** out of my paint. there a guy who did my friends evo X and he comes to your house, so ill just give him a call to fix it up. I should of done more research before going. I made a post on 780tuners.com (my local car site) and make sure everyone knows haha, hopfully they lose some business

I hear you man. I had similar problems. The DAY I got my G, I took it to a clear bra place. They scratched up the entire car when they washed it....what can you do right? I then paid a professional detailer $300, and there were still scratches after, though it did improve.

I learned my lesson, and the next time, I'm going to install the thing myself. It's really not that hard, just time consuming.

The paint, especially black is super sensitive. Just pressing hard with your fingers will scratch it. Like small super fine scratches. So when washing use a soft mitt when soaping and use the 2 bucket method. And use a waffle weave to dry. I just use a quick detail every day so I don't really need to wash with water.

wait...what are those little white spots? Are those debris that stuck under 3M or the rock chips that you had before?

Like, fine scratches on your clearcoat, but not deep enough to reach the actual coloured paint (i.e. swirl marks). I don't dry my car with towels, as I find that even that can give you scratches. I absorb the water on to soft paper towel that I lay on the car. Not perfect, but no scratches. It takes like 3-5 hours to wash my car once.....

I don't care if people make fun of me. I'm the one who has to live with my car and the scratches! And just so you know, the 3M thing scratches just as easily. It's only good for protecting against chips, but you have to be just as careful washing the 3M plastic.
