I noticed that the exhaust makes a lot of pinging noise. I have an 09 g37s and haven't noticed it since day one but have recently. I mean when the car is running and not moving its pretty loud. I have never noticed that before.
Yeah I know the metal contracts and expands when hot but this is something I never heard on any other car.
Does anybody else's car ping that loud when just sitting there running?

 

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about. I had that problem and took it to the dealer. My service advisor told me it was the heat shield expanding and contracting that is creating that sound. It's normal for the car. :/

 

I think I know which noise you're talking about, and I hear it too. Someone told me it was the catalytic converter making that noise. I'm not very good with mechanics so I took their word for it. I would say it's normal for our cars. In general, a lot of "normal" noises in this car. Good to know we all hear it so then it means it's not defective (I guess).

 

I never had a car have no many creaks, squeaks, rattles and other various noises in my life and saying it's normal

 

also hear the ticking sound by the Cat lol.

 

I hear ya man, I'm in the same boat. None of my previous cars made these noises either, but I guess it just comes with the territory. I'm still happy with it because it's fun and sexy.

 

Does anyone think that it could be something to do with the cats?
I notice it doesn't happen when its cold but as soon as it warms up it pings and when I step on the throttle a little it makes the pinging noise a little louder.
I know its def not the muffler cause I checked that
