I followed the manual's break in procedure. I kept the rpms under 4,000 and used the brakes gently, for the first 1,200 miles. It seemed like a long break in period, but it's history now.

 

I used to do that ... to the cars ... but thats when i was like 18 years old bro and stuiped ...
I Drive my G37s like a old man bro ah lol ... going like 40MPH ... and it's a 6sp Manual
I also dont drive the car as much maybe once during the week to work ... i just drive more on the weekends ...

It's a 08 with only 18k miles on it

 

I prefer to follow the manuals procedure since most of the break in on an engine is already done before it is even dropped into the car.

That reAson and my fear of the "uncle Sam" reasoning that the computer will reveal what I did to her should something go wrong and I need the warranty to kick in.

Apart from that, I too could set up a website and tell you to light a match to her to increase the flux capacitors reserve energy during time travel... Believe what you want And do what you want!

 

Thanks for all the input fellas. Honestly, as much as I try to be gentle on the throttle I just CANT. I told my self after I posted this (with around 250 miles) that I was going to be more gentle. Now my car is at 950 miles and I been driving that sexy thing hard! lol

 

I like seeing the link to the motorcycle break-in process. That is like giving someone instructions on how to eat an apple when they ask you how to eat an orange. It is not the same.

Also, for the people that drove it hard from the start, who knows right now. The real answers wont be seen until the cars hit 100K. For now, I feel best following the manual. Better safe than sorry. An expression that has been used for years with good reason.

Buying new is a waste of money IMO. Especially if you don't plan on keeping it till it breaks. I got my 08 G37s fully loaded minus Navi with 13k miles for almost half what he paid off the lot for it. He's an idiot, and I'm a G37 owner with a low car payment

I think periods of hard runs and softer running are the best to break in the engine. You should be fine.

 

You need to drive like you would everyday. You ECU will adjust to how you drive. You should be fine as long as you go by you maint. schedule.

 

Drive it like you stole it... IMO just drive it how you normally would.

 

Aren't the engines broken in at the factory? Who wants to buy a 330 HP car and drive it like a grampa for x amount of miles.I agree with what blindman8858 posted about break in.

 

picked her up with 5m on the odo and ended up driving it like I stole it while being chased with 3 hours left to live after around 200 or so (with a few defensive/mergin hi-speed/rev events). That 200 miles lasted 2/4 days
