these two statements go hand in hand. it doesnt matter if its touchless or not, carwashes SUCK. you think taking care of the G by hand is a PITA b/c you obviously don't want to put the time into it, hence why you go to a car wash.

for those of us that enjoy working on the car, we aren't lying or trying to convince ourselves of anything. we just like working on the car, that is absolutely not a PITA

I disagree. Again, wether its a PITA is relative to each persons routine in keeping their paint maintained.

I detailed what I normally do. So for me, its not a PITA because its my normal routine. I like my cars to look perfect and clean. So I keep them clean.

Im not lying, nor trying to convince myself its not. Its what I enjoy doing with all my cars, no matter what the color. I even do it with my wifes Toyota RAV4. And you know what, her car is more of a PITA than my car to keep clean. Her paint seems to be much softer, she gets much more chips on the front of the hood, and I need to add touch up paint to the routine on her car. And her car is metallic blue.

I dont have any rock chips on the front of mine, and I drive my car much much faster than she drives hers.

I probably spend 45 minutes - an hour every 2 weeks cleaning my car. Wash, QB, and spray on wax or sealant, and rainX on the windows.

For someone like my wife who doesnt care for their cars paint and just rinses it down with a hose to keep it clean, then it might be a PITA. But for someone who routinely cares for their car, uses polishes, or puts on waxes or sealants regularly, its no more work than any other color.

So Im not lying or trying to convince myself otherwise. My wife's metallic blue RAV4 is more of a PITA to me to keep clean than my black G37.

Actually its the complete opposite in my house. My wife likes it when I drive, so 95% of my cars mileage Im behind the wheel, and 70% of her car's mileage, Im behind the wheel. The only time she drives her car is when she is going somewhere and Im not coming along. (We also commute to work together and dont drive the G37 much in the wintertime.... I put about 8k miles a year on it)

And she doesnt tailgate at all. I do. So Im sure most of the rock chips are my fault and I do a lot of driving on her car, especially in the winter, hence why I detail and heep her car clean also.

The RAV4 has very very soft paint and it gets more swirl marks, rock chips, and scratches more than the G37 does.

+1. I dont know how I missed that.

Like I said, its all relative to your maintenance practices. And of course someone who takes his car to the carwash is going to think black is a PITA to maintain. If you think its a PITA to even wash your car by hand and need to take it to a carwash, then of course you are going to think black would be a PITA to maintain.

I do agree that the black makes it look quite different and hides some of the lines (makes the rear end look bulkier I think) but I actually like it better.

I think what people are equating extra care with PITA, but if you actually enjoy that kind of activity then it isn't a PITA. If you don't like detailing your car then the BO will definitely be a PITA. It takes less than half the time to maintain my wife's car (white) as it does mine since it just doesn't show as much of the dust/dirt/scratch/swirl etc.

BTW I use to have the PG and now own the OB. I didn't want to get the OB the first time for the exact same reason as many people are posting, too much maintenance. A few months after I bought my PG i started regretting it. My PG was totaled so now I have the BO and am putting one of George's kids through college (some of you will get the joke) but have no regrets getting the BO.

So what do you want, a cookie? I have a job that takes up most of my hours during the week and a 1 month old daughter that takes up all the rest of my time. I don't have 6 hours a day to sit around with 7 MF towels and an entire aisle's worth of cleaning products polishing every last square inch of the car. Its just a car. I love it and I want it clean but I don't have the time (or the OCD) to treat it as though its the Sistine Chapel. For me (and, oh, about 99% of the people on earth) a touchless carwash and a quick MF drying is about all the time I can afford cleaning my car and black is NOT the right color for us....

I completely agree with you. George's kids are lucky there are many enthusiasts on the forums here.

umm...what...

I never said there was anything wrong with not wanting black. If it's not for you that's fine. But saying people who have it and enjoy spending time working on it are lying or in denial is just incorrect.

It is just a car, but I'm on call 24-7 serving the great US of A and I enjoy working on it. It doesn't take 6 hours a day, just some TLC on the weekend. If you don't have the time, great. If you don't want to make the time, great. I enjoy it as do others.

Woah woah there. I dont think anyones bashing anyones routine. If you dont enjoy washing or detailing your car, theres nothing wrong with that. For someone to say its a PITA and someone else to say its not a PITA, you really need to establish their maintenance and car care routine to put it to a baseline. For someone to come on and say anyone who disagrees with me is lying or trying to convince yourself otherwise, thats just ignorant.

And for reference, it takes me 45 minutes to an hour every 2 weeks. I bet by the time most people drive to their local carwash, wait in line, and drive home, I could have my car handwashed, dried, with a light scratchX hand touch up on any minor swirl marks, and a spray on coat of wax or sealant on it. And I use 5 small microfiber towels.

The only time it ever takes me around 6 hours is twice a year, when I give my car the full monty, get out the PC, and do a complete detail. No one does that every weekend because with all that polishing, they would have no paint on their car by the end of the year.

PG, AG, and GS all look too similar to me. Its hard to tell them apart unless they are next to each other. I had a GS sedan as a loaner and it wasn't much of a difference. I don't understand why Infiniti is releasing almost similar shades of grey. IMO, the Infiniti line up needs a dark gunmetallic grey color like those found on Lexus', BMW's and Mercs. Sad to say but Infiniti has probably the worst color options out of all the car manufacturers.

It may seem strange at first, but if you think about just how popular grays are these days, it makes sense to offer slightly different shades.

BTW, GS replaced PG for 2010. So now you can only get AG or GS if you want a "medium" gray. BS to my eyes looks more blue than slate (grey) and is a much darker color than GS or AG. So really there are only two true grays, even if they are very similar. I agree that a nice gunmetal gray would be sweet on a G coupe. I'd buy one that color in a heartbeat if they offered it.

Haha I guess I started quite a discussion... anyway when I went back for the 2nd time to the dealership the GS looked a bit darker than I remember it being.

I also considered the maintenance time required for the OB and if I had the time to detail my car like I used to then I might have picked it up, but I simply don't anymore. Plus California sun would kill me in a black on black car!

So I picked up the GS color as it really grew on me as I saw it on the cars on the dealerships (I was considering the g37 anniversary edition but those red seats are ugh...). I'll have pics up in a bit, probably after I hunt down a good tint shop and get my windows done.

Thanks for the input everyone!
