What is the recommended break in period? IE, varying rpm, no steady long cruising etc. Thanks

most cars its ~3K miles, not above 3K RPM, and don't drive for >15 mins or so at a steady RPM.

there are bunches of threads w/ people arguing about if you need it or not, as well as in your owners manual it outlines it pretty much to the dot

so called break in

According to the techs at infiniti the "break-in" is 1200 miles, but that figure is just a number. Ive never in my experience seen a car blow up if it wasnt broken in properly or abused a little when it had a few miles on it. Not to compare apples and oranges but my WRX was beatin from day one, then modded to 440hp/460tq, absorbed another 10k and sold at 20k miles with the same compression and perfect leakdown from day one. The majority of people I kno have given their car a little run when it was a baby and yet to see any consequences. IMHO drive it normally, dont go WOT every gear 24/7, but have fun with it.

There are a few different schools of thought on this issue.

1. follow the manual, best option if you can wait 1200 miles before having to get "around someone".
2. Sort of follow the manual, try to keep it under 4k, but sometimes **** happens. (Think most people follow this)
3. Drive it like you stole it. (supposed to make your engine run better, faster, stronger Break In Secrets--How To Break In New Motorcycle and Car Engines For More Power)

Personally I followed number 2 on three different g's and never had a problem
