Sedan to coupe

Hey guys. So I have a 2008 g35x and my lease is up in a few months. The coupe wasn't available in awd when I leased my current car so didn't even consider the coupe. So now I am thinking of making the switch to a coupe. I honestly can say I haven't used my back seat for people in almost a year. I have owned a few older accord coupes and a prelude so I am not a stranger to a coupe. Also, I love the fact that the coupe has a fold down rear seat even if that trunk looks very small. I found a few posts on this subject but nothing that had a good amount of detail.

Is there anyone on here that has switched from a sedan to coupe? Do you regret it?? I guess I am thinking the coupe drives and rides the same as the sedan with 2 less doors. Is that true? Is the coupe louder or is there anything else I might notice?? I am sure there is a difference between 08 and 2010, but any other differences from coupe to sedan?

Also, I didn't get the sport package on my sedan. I use the stock 17 for snow tires. I ended up getting the 18inch coupe wheels for my sedan. So if I lease a coupe I will have two sets of the exact same wheels. I guess I could use my current set for 18 snow tires. The problem is I love the 19 inch wheel option on the rwd sport. It makes the car look so much better. Perhaps I can get the dealer to put a set on but I doubt it. Any thoughts or ideas? I suppose I could sell the 18 I have now and buy some replica 19's (since they need to be non-staggered IMO).

I will always have two sets of wheels, snow tires and summer. I feel it's very much needed where I live.

Any comments appreciated.

I love having a coupe. Something about it just feels cozier and sportier to me.

Coupes tend to have annoying wind/water leak issues around where the window seals at the a pillar, since they don't have the same door frames the sedans do. They're not supposed to leak, and will be taken care of under warranty when it happens.

Coupes are much sexier rides, and they have better resale value to boot.

I have switched from a sedan to a coupe and I miss my sedan sometime because the coupe basically has no back seat but if you do not use your back seat then the coupe is the way to go, it is so much better looking.

I also had a problem with my coupe when i got it, it had 18" coupe wheels and the 19" are so much better. I seached high and low until i found someone selling 19" wheels for a reasonable price and they make the car look so much better.

So get the coupe and if you dont want the whole S package find someone selling S wheels.

My G is my first Coupe in 20 years and I love it. I had a M45 drove it over 135,000 miles and probably only had someone else in it for 10,000 of those miles. When I bought the M I wanted the G but the G35 model did not have the head room that I wanted but the G37 does. My driving is 135 miles a day commute 5 days a week.

IMO the coupe is a lot more fun to drive

Thanks for all the feecback.

So comparing sedan to coupe I guess I shouldn't expect anymore wind or road noise.. The coupe is much hotter looking for sure. A part of me wishes the coupe G was a bigger coupe. For example:

G sedan trunk - 12 cu ft Coupe is like 7
3 series sedan and coupe are 12 cu ft.
Audi A5 trunk is 12 cu ft.

The g is a small coupe vs. a larger coupe. In any event I love the G so don't think I"ll consider the others at this point.

I really want those 19's for summer!! I am amazed how much better the car looks. The only issue I have with leasing is getting two different sets of wheels gets expensive every 3 years for a car I don't own. Oh well. I know a take off set or replica won't be too bad price wise. I know I can get some money for my current 18's since they are in great shape.

Any other feedback is appreciated.

I don't own either but I test drove a '10 coupe x and a '10 sedan xs the other day and one thing I really noticed was the seating position. The sedan's seating position seems raised and is much higher feeling whereas the coupe has a lower more cockpit feel.

I had a 2008 Journey sedan with the premium package and the sport wheels and tires for a year and a half. It was a great car but just didn't stir my soul like I hoped it would. After I got it, I realized the trunk was not as useful as my wife's Corolla so we ended up using the Corolla more on trips out of town.

Well, my wife's Corolla got totaled while she was at a red light last summer and we got a new Honda CRV. Dang Dallas drivers! Well, opportunity came and I got a great deal on a 2009 Journey coupe with the sport package. I couldn't be happier. The whole package is so much better for me personally since we have the CRV which holds a ton of stuff. I love the appearance, the exhaust note and the sport package in general. I also got the NAV package which I have to admit, I use and enjoy more than I thought I would.

If you really don't need the extra space, consider the coupe. I have actually had a 1 year old and a 14 year in the back seat with my wife and I up front for trips around town.

If you were to get a coupe, there is an option to get the wheel and tire package. Just know that, if your used to the soft feel of the 17/ 18 inch wheels, you wont be used to the 19 inch wheels as you will feel a lot more bumps. I got the sport and tire package and I never looked back. They look absolutely amazing. When I was in a loaner g37 sedan, I noticed that it is a lot more quiet. I could barely hear the exhaust note, so expect your coupe to be a lot louder. Despite the coupe being less practical than the sedan, I absolutely LOVE my G coupe and would never trade it in for a G sedan replacement.

I didn't think the tire and wheel package you are speaking of was available on the g37X. I am getting the x for sure. There is an 18" optional package that I think matches the wheels on the new limited edition G. No 19 option. Good point about the ride though.

I've been a G driver since 2005. I started off with a 2005 G Sedan. I rarely found the need to carry passengers in the backseat. In 2008, I went from the G Sedan to a G37 Coupe. I have no regrets. I feel like I should have had a coupe all along.

I think you should go for it and get the coupe.

I have almost the same story as Blackjack. I had a 2005 G35 Sedan then went to a 2007 Sedan & although I liked having the sedan I never had driven the coupe until about 2008 when I test drove one. Boy was I missing out on some more fun in driving.

So I assessed the situation whether or not I 'needed' a sedan? I found that I didn't really use the back seats much, so in 2009 I decided (when my '07 G35 Sedan lease was up) to get a coupe instead. Here I am, now driving a loaded coupe and loving it. I have absolutely no regrets. What made it a better deal was that in 2008 I bought my wife an FX, so if there is a 'need' to have more people in the car sitting more comfortable, I have the option of using the SUV to do so.

In a nutshell, get what suits you and your needs, but IMHO I love the coupe over the sedan.

i had all sedans before and got tired of driving around people. when you have a sedan, your friends automatically assume you will drive. now with my coupe, they dont even ask

I chaged sedan 07 35x on 09 37x coupe, not regrets. No needs in extra doors and space, mostly driving alone. Car is more powerful and faster, 7 speed transmssion is plus to me, otherwise same Infiniti. I am using set of winters I bought for sedan for now, but I will sell them for 18 or 19 inch. Changed stock Dunlop crappy tires to Mich PliotSport P/S2, sold stock on Craiglist quick.

Thanks for all the great advice guys. You are making me want the coupe now, but I have to wait a few more months. Not that it is a chore driving the sedan.

I really wish I could get the 19 wheels from the start. I doubt the dealer will go for that. I'll have to sell my current 18 coupe wheels, use the wheels that come with the coupe for snow tires then but a set of 19's. Assuming I get the same money for my coupe wheels as snow tires, I just have the expense of the 19s which is about 2k with tires I suppose. Kinda sucks since it is only for two years but the 19s look incredible. I hope I like the ride with the 19s.
