Windshield cracked!!!
Is it cracked or just get a "star" in it? If it was just a star, it can be filled to prevent cracks running and you'll hardly be able to notice it. I got one in mine and insurance covered it to be filled, and it's like it never happened.

For MD and State Farm, there is a separate deductible for glass coverage (if you have it), I think mine is $50. No way is the dealer going to cover that unless you can prove it cracked from a manufacture defect ..... good luck with that!
Don't worry about it. Just use a reputable glass shop and you'll be satisified with the job.
Had mine done recently. If the crack is larger than a dollar bill than it cannot be filled. The entire windshield would need to be replaced. Some states cover the replacement but not in CA, had to pay deductible. A lot of glass guys are mobile too and they can come to you. Takes about an hours or less.

I don’t believe it’s a California thing. My insurance company (USAA) replaced a windshield for free with no deductable on a past car. They (a subcontractor) even came to my house to do it.
California insurance laws do not require insurance companies to offer free window replacement. There are some states that have laws in place so that insurers must waive the deductible for the comprehensive coverage claim for windshield repairs or replacement, California though is not one of these states.
There are only a few states in the US that waive the deductible for windshield replacements or repairs. The states of Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts and South Carolina waive the deductible and thus are referred to by some as zero deductible states with regards to windshield claims.
In these states your insurance company is required by law to repair or replace your windshield with no deductible charged—as long as you have comprehensive insurance on your vehicle. Florida and Massachusetts only fully cover windshields, but Kentucky and South Carolina cover all glass replacement with no deductible.
In California you need comprehensive or comprehensive glass coverage to have a window repaired or replaced by your auto insurance provider. Comprehensive glass coverage is coverage on an "all risks" basis for glass breakage, subject to exclusions of war and fire. With either type of coverage you would need to pay the deductible associated with that portion of your auto insurance policy.
So CA does not have free window or windshield replacement though there may be some insurers that on their own will waive a deductible for windshield claims. The thinking there is that you will be a safer driver if your windshield is in proper condition and the driver can see without impairment.

Right. CA is also a state that doesn't require insurance companies to replace cracked windshields for free like other states (ex. FL).
