Why I am furious

So on Friday i decide to get an oil change and decide to do what i never do and call Infiniti to see what there prices are. They wanted to 85 dollars for Synthetic oil and I ask them is there any way I can get synthetic for 50 dollars at their dealership... I speicficaly asked synthetic. The guy tells me he can do it for 55 so I said ok. I go there and they take my car and like an HOUR later my oil change is complete and one of the technicians was asking why I decided to go for regular oil, this is after they are done. I was like wtf r u talking about I was told they were using full synthetic. The guy says that I requested regular oil and that is why they gave it to me for 55. I said I wanted synthetic oil and the guy said he would do that for 55. He never said he would use another type of oil. So should I go to another place and get full synthetic? Is it even worth running my car on this ****?

BTW I did not pay the 55 dollars.

Dealership prices are a bit on the high side and they are what they are. You wanted to haggle the price cheaper, so maybe he gave you a price that met your requirement, but it wasn't what you wanted. You aren't' likely to get a dealership $55 synthetic oil change form Infiniti anywhere. Sucks that you got screwed by it. Next time you want a $55 synthetic oil change DIY or avoid the dealership at least. Not likely to happen there.

I always use regular oil in my G37. If the dealer is using it then it meets Nissan's/Infiniti's guidelines. There's nothing wrong with it.

Is there a big difference switching to synthetic from conventional? Some people say yes, others no.

1) There is nothing "wrong" with conventional oil. It simply won't last as long as synthetic.

2) I think you are dreaming if you want to pay 55 dollars for a synthetic oil change at a dealer.

3) There was clearly a misunderstanding between you and whomever you spoke with, but that doesn't mean they tried to screw you. It's always a good idea to have them write down your requests when you hand over your keys. I always have them write DO NOT WASH on any of my work orders.

4) Either do the oil change yourself, or bring your own oil in with you and have them put that in. They will only charge you the cost of labor and filter (unless you bring your own) which is about 25-30 dollars.

Yeb, I think it's cheap even at $85. I will pay $85 if my dealers offer this option. I don't need/want to go to see them 3 times a year.

My oil change cost $45 at my local Infiniti dealership. Don't know what oil they use, but I know it meets the Nissan/Infiniti requirements and that s all that matters.

Guess I'm lucky, the Nissan dealer we bought our Coupe at had a three for three for free promotion. Free Oil Changes, Loaner Car and Tire Rotation for three years. I do take my own synthetic in though so I guess it's really not free.

My dealership charges $60 for a synthetic blend oil change. It last 7k miles and is good for 6 months.

I just do my own oil changes with full synthetic and it still comes out cheaper then stealership prices.

Motul X-Max 5w30 is the best oil I have ever used! It's expensive, but it fixed my issue with the VVEL knocking noise.

Sounds like a good deal, what dealer did you get yours from? I got mine from Infiniti of Chantilly and they never offered any such deal.

There's a few dealerships around my area that offer the same promotion. Free tire rotations, oil changes, loaners for life. In a sense you are paying for their services in the MSRP price of the car, but a lot of salesmen try to use this "benefit" to fuel their sales pitch. Those "free" oil changes aren't actually free.

Right but there's a pretty big difference in 93% lean then 65% at fast food places and still pay less for the lean higher quality meat meat (aka DIY oil changing).

Just the dealer uses coventional oil and I it meet the dealership standards. That doesn't mean it's worth putting it into our cars. But it's your money and your engine so who cares. Right
