I would think it would be considered defective whether or not a passenger was in the car with you. Airbags shouldn't be deploying due to potholes...

when you hit the pothole at the speed you were going was there like alot of vibration in the cabin. If the vibration passes a certain level on the air bag sensor then they'll deploy. As for the passenger airbag do you have to manually set it off or is it automatic.

lawyer because 1) your without a car for almost a month that is if you have another one waiting. 2) It's a defect and it should be placed under warranty.

I admit Infiniti customer affairs is crap. They take for ever to resolve a any kind of matter.

It's manual. Basically, you just have to be prepared. 1/20th a second before the impact of a crash, you have to push the "Deploy Airbag" button(RTFM to find it). You need to have pretty good reflexes. I've gone through 2 wives trying to get the timing right, but I think I got it now.

THis is terrible. I have had no problems with Infiniti for the two years I have had my G, but somehow I bet I'd get the same runaround if this happened to me. Airbags shouldn't deploy from hitting potholes, end of story. This should be covered under warranty....

Not only should you be getting a lawyer you should stop talking to Infiniti Corporate, stop talking to Infiniti Dealers and stop posting on the internet about it. But then again your lawyer should have already told you this. Get a lawyer and he/she should be doing your talking for you from now on.

Not to be insensative as I'm not experiencing deployed airbags but, how is the airbag deployment sensor supposed to know when it is a pot hole and not an impact with something stationary or head-on? Really. The wheel was broken - that was not a small pot hole either to break a forged wheel. Every pot hole I've ever seen has had the dirt and gravel flushed out of it leaving the face of the asphalt as a vertical edge for the impact. Tough for an impact sensor to sort out.

In this case, the Infiniti bashing has started publicly before Infiniti had a chance to resolve the case. Sure they aren't by any means moving swiftly on this and that is problem.

Sorry, I still don't understand the chatter about the whether the passenger bag should have deployed or not. I'm suspecting not if no one is sitting there.

I'm w/ you, motocopter. I find it's amazing that most people here keep talking about getting a lawyer.

Infinti has a very bad customer service unless you find that rare dealer. I miss Santa Barbara Auto Group for my warranty work and service. The Oxnard dealership service was a nightmare and about 50 minutes away from my house. If this treatment continues I may sell this car and never buy a Nissan automobile again. If you buy a premium automobile you should get great customer service from the dealership and the manufacture. Check out the link below.

System malfunctions

There have been numerous reported instances (and recalls) of air bags because of unnecessary deployment (on ignition, upon striking a pothole or curb). These are typically caused by a problem in the electrical system or sensors.

Haven't had any problems with Grubbs Infiniti in Euless regarding service work. However, haven't had anything as extensive as a airbag issue.....sorry to hear. Hope they get the situation rectified.

If I understand how airbag sensors are supposed to work they detect the collision but then a backup set of sensors is supposed to detect the rapid deceleration which happens after hitting an object. Driving along and hitting a pothole like this would cause a rather large jolt but no rapid deceleration that would actually trigger the bags. The airbags should not have deployed. The fact that he is getting stonewalled by corporate is reason enough to say "get a lawyer". Also because the rim cracked most of the force was exerted into the rim and not into the car itself. There are no air bag sensors in the rims. Also I believe the sensors (don't know if a G37 does though) can record information at the moment they fired. So they can look at the data and see what the car was actually doing. They will be able to tell if a crash happened or if they fired because of a malfunction.

I'm not a mechanical engineer but I believe this is how it all is supposed to work.

Just seeing this... Holy crap! I'd have me a lawyer quickly. Best of luck and publicize the **** out of this.

I'd even contact your local news and let them know what's going on.
