Don't know exactly why it is but it's the same with all the other cars like 335, IS350....etc.
Maybe it's time to get into the import/export business.

There are always ways to beat the system (in Lebanon) of course, have an FX shipped from the US and keep a US number plate on it.. Wait for a few years before getting a local number plate.. That's what I do with my G actually
I keep the UAE number plate on it, by 2011 it'll cost me like 5 grand or so to have the G registered in Lebanon whereas it would've cost me around 20 grands today

Most things that are imported into China have crazy tariffs associated with them. If you want to penetrate their marketplace you actually have to build it in China. In certain instances you can't even sell it (say to municipalities) unless it has Chinese content. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it would be double the price that we're paying.
<_rant_>
It cracks me up, if the US tried to do this (put excessive tariffs on imports), the whole f'n world would cry foul about unfair trade practices...

well said Sam, the whole world has a stiffy to penetrate the chinese marketplace (pun intended) but what they don't realize is that 99.9% of the Chinese population can't afford any of the crap we're trying to sell them. Anyhew... end of politics, this is the wrong forum and I feel the heat of some flaming replies coming on...
the G37 is priced at $483,000 RMB with prem and nav package.
with today's rate it turns to $70,743 USD.
and the loaded 09 G37 here costs around $40k.
You can check it out on the Infiniti China site.
Infiniti G Sedan
The GT-R was selling 1 million - 1.2 million HKD when it first came out in HK.
At the time the US price was $70k USD before the price hike.
similar with the M3 and C63 AMG.

Unfortunately, not everyone understands Economics and benefits of free trade. Like why the fck is a third azz world country like Lebanon enforcing import tariffs on Automobiles?? It's not like they have domestic production which they need to sell...
