for cars that uses key holes.. u can't switch the engine to OFF unless ur gear is in Park (for AT).. and I don't think u can switch from Drive to Park when ur car is in motion.. so start-stop feature won't be any much different from cars with key holes, right?

You can. It's not healthy for your car, but you can, if the engine is not running.

Sounds kinda stupid. Why not just hit the brakes? If you turn it off, you lose all power steering and everything.

Well, when you go into park, a bolt moves into place that "locks" the tranny. If you're rolling, well, the tranny and the wheels are still connected, so... something's gotta give...

(this is what holds your car in place when you're in park...)

Momentum is momentum... shoving a trans into park or reverse isn't going to stop a 3700 pound car

The owner's manual:

Do not operate the push-button ignition switch
while driving the vehicle except in an emergency.
(The engine will stop when the ignition
switch is pushed 3 consecutive times or the
ignition switch is pushed and held for more
than 2 seconds.) If the engine stops while the
vehicle is being driven, this could lead to a

crash and serious injury.

The Lexus situation seems to one of computer taking over the car (unless you want to believe the floormat is the issue) preventing you from braking, shifting into N, etc.

Hey guys I figure I would be a team player and take one for the team. Tried it on my way home from work and now my car won't start back up! Do you think the gas cap isn't tight enough? Thats what the dealership suggested, Any help?

Stall out, hahahha.

Can someone give me a scenario where you would want to do this since it'll lock your wheels, which might be kind of dangerous?

i guarantee you that you can shut off a car by turning the key towards the off position. you cant remove the key, but the engine will still cut off. even so, i'd rather still shove it into neutral rather than diddle around with pushing the button three times while i worry about braking and steering a dead car all at the same time. by the time you push the button three times, i would figure you've travelled at least 150-200 ft while doing 60.
