My Story, start to finish
So back in April of 2008, a nice, pretty girl by the name of Nichole dropped off my new 08 G37 at my office, then in Santa Ana. She came with it all the way from Santa Monica Infiniti, nice little trek. Brought in all my paperwork and within 20 minutes I was a new 2008 G37 owner. If you’re still looking for a smooth deal you can still get a car from her at Miller Infiniti now in the Valley.
All seemed well and fine for the first few month of ownership, except that gas jumped to around 4.50 a gallon. Plugged along, noticed a CEL for my first oil change, had them fix it while changing the oil. Loose gas cap is what they tell me. I started to get some déjà vu from a previous Audi I owned with an evaporative gas leak problem. Figure it was just a onetime fluke and went on my marry way.
A few month go by, I change jobs out to LA and move out to the San Fernando Valley area, a little farther north, around Thousand Oaks. Around this time the TSB for engine knock comes around, and my car is suffering from this issue. But I also had a CEL click on, which I had been ignoring since I was pretty sure it was an Evap. Fuel Leak again. This would begin my first experience with Thousand Oak Infiniti, but definitely not the last.
She may have not heard me tell her there was a CEL, because nothing was ever done to fix it. So I brought it in a month or so later regarding the CEL. The service guy takes the car and does the diagnosis, “You need to tighten your fuel cap better.” Yeah, it’s happening again, at this point I beginning to worry I’m going to have this same problem in this new car I lease as my old car. I told him I knew about how to tighten the gas cap, to which he said to just bring it back in if the problem, comes back and they look further into it.
Are you still with me people? So this was 2 times in the dealer. Two weeks later, bling, the CEL comes back. So it’s back into Infiniti for the 3rd time. They do their check, and come back saying, “well the fuel cap tested fine, but we went ahead and replaced the fuel cap anyways.” So I was hoping this would be the last I’d have to deal with this fuel leak problem. Next day, get driving down the freeway, and bling again, the CEL comes back on. Now at this point it’s been 12 hours out of the service bay, I had a full tank to start off with, so I didn’t fill up, or even touch the gas cap in that short period of time.
Looks like we’re going back in for try #4. But this time I’ve contacted Infiniti Consumer Affairs, and the Bureau of Automotive Repair and hoped they’d light a fire under these guys ****’s and get this fixed. They replaced the whole filler neck assembly and replace the fuel cap again. So I was off on my marry way.
And just about a month later the light comes on again, times up boys and girls, 5 times is enough, so I called Infiniti they had me bring the car in to which they said, there’s nothing wrong, even though I had the code checked and left in memory for them to read before coming in. So they send me along. Mean while I’ve contacted the BBB about Lemon Law and filed a case. Sure enough the light comes on again, so this is 6 lights now.
At this time the case was already filed and processing. I later attended an arbitration hearing which they heard my side of the case, and a “master technician” from Nissan North America, gave Infiniti’s arguments. After about a week of the arbitrator making his decision I was granted the repurchase of my vehicle.
So as of yesterday the car is now the property again of Nissan North America, and I was given a nice little check for reimbursement from Infiniti. Thank you Infiniti for making my car owning experience so annoying that I had to take you to court and sue you for my refund and repurchase of my car. Now you have a 08 G37 with 33k on the ODO, that you paid 30,500 for, and gave me a large refund. When all you had to do was take my problem seriously and fix it right in the first 3 attempts. Oh well, better luck next time.

Actually now that I remember, I had a CEL go off when I first bought my car. I read the owners manual and it said to check the gas cap, as it turned out it was my fault, I didn't put the gas cap back on right. After that, I've never had that CEL come on again.

Lol....trust me after this ordeal, I know how to tighten a gas cap, I even made them show me their "technique" to verify I'm not a complete tard and can use the same technique I've used on all my other cars.

LOL, so sad, I can actually picture the technician beside you showing you: "And this is how you want to tighten the gas cap. Now you try."
Suck. My car just started throwing error codes P0455, P0456, and P0442. They are all Evaporative Emission Control System Leak errors. The dealer is an hour away. I just cleared the codes and I hope they don't come back. Although, a new CTS-V sounds nice.
