holding down the VDC button

hi all,

quick question...what happens when we hold the VDC button down? for like more than 5 secs

normally if u turn the VDC off , the light indicator pops up on the dash but when i held the button down it disappeared and wouldn't come back on until i shut the car off and restarted the car

anyone had this experience?

Typically the first light indication (just pressing it once and NOT holding it) is for the TRACTION control... holding the button will turn off STABILITY control.

Not sure if this is the case with Infiniti/Nissan but with that's the case with Lexus, Merc, and Chevy/GM (other brands I've personally turned things off with)

No idea. There is no mention in the service manual about holding the VDC button. Here's my suspicion:
  • Push the VDC momentarily - it will toggle the system off (VDC OFF lamp displayed) and back on (no lamp). I assume you can do this over and over.
  • Holding the VDC button seems to put the system back on (no lamp) and then keeps it there until the next reset (ignition cycle). This may be a failsafe in the ABS ECU module.
Just an educated guess

Maybe it's there for the guys that don't want the VDC engaged and also don't want to be annoyed by the light telling you it's off?

could be a stuck button fail safe.

if the button is detected continuously active (i.e. pressed) for a set amount of time, it is considered stuck active. in this case, it would be a safety concern to not allow VDC to turn back on so VDC is defaulted on. this stuck button condition would only be cleared on the next ign cycle where the button is detected as not active (i.e. not pressed).

One press turns both traction and stability control fully off...

The only thing that stays on is the electronic limited slip differential, which uses the rear brakes to try and equalize torque.

Holding the button does nothing. Seriously people, read your owners manual.

So I've been holding the button down waiting for my car to transform into a super cool badazz robot, but it's not working. My car is just sitting there doing nothing. I think my button is broken . I guess I'm headed back to the dealer.......

Relax guys, its two settings, on and off. When its off (dash light lit up) there is no traction control, no dynamic control, nada, we have a fully defeatable system on these cars.

However, if you do hold it down, the exhaust note changes to a louder more aggressive sound and the longer you hold it the louder it gets until the exhaust is completely uncorked/open headers. Keep holding it down and the suspension gets tighter, the car drops an inch and the wheels get wider and the tires get stickier. If you hold it down long enough the rear wing raises and the car will create a significant amount of downforce. And if your finger can still hold it down, the car will actually start dispensing $100 bills from the CD slot.
