Oh I forgot to mention, if you go to edmunds.com you will see that the bmw 335 sedans are having crazy rebates and incentives. bmw cost more than the G37 but if you factor in the free maintenance and the rebates and 0.9% financing, its not that much more. Just telling the truth. but keep in mind, bmw are fugly inside compared to the G37... lol

The G is cheaper but way far in performance from the 335i. I just got rid of my 335i Coupe because of all problems it came with. If you wand a fast, hot ride and look like a million get the BMW. If you go for reliability get the g37. Be prepared however to meet the clunkiest and noisy transmission. Not to mention that it feels weird when you sit in the G. The armrest is somewhat way back and the left armrest is kinda low.... Other than that, less creaks than the BMW and drives more aggressively. Try the 135i, this piece is a rocket. So little and so fast... unbelievable...

I hear at BMW now they offer oil change and High Preasure Fuel Pump Replacement all together.

I wouldn't say it's "way far" from the 335. The BMW will definitely win the low end battle, but at higher speeds and RPM's, that's where the G pulls ahead.

Yep, I buy my cars based on 0-60, drive feel, handling abilities and reliability.
The BMW failed horribly on the last one...

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I guess I should have let everyone know, I'm pretty much interested in the g37, as the bmw looks fantastic on the outside and has amazing numbers, it's just e pensive in comparison and the interior is fugly!

My real concern is the g37 6mt vs 7auto. Does anyone have solid numbers comparing the 2? And a 7auto with performance package is almost identical to the sport yes? I still can't believe the lighter sedans are faster too

The 7AT with the sport package is identical in every way to the sport 6MT except:

Paddle shifters
extra gears (and more aggressive gears).
missing 3rd pedal
everyone can drive it

Otherwise, everything the sport 6MT has is on the 7AT with sport package.

You can't go wrong with either. FWIW, every car I've owned has been a MT except for my G35. The auto tranny is just that good. I'd be willing to bet that very few members on this board can downshift as smoothly as the 7AT.

Hmm I just don't know if I can justify 1500 for the 7speed.

Like the others said, off the line you can tell it's a heavy car, but once this thing gets rolling it pulls like a train...a year later I still get surprised when I downshift into 3rd to pass someone and I see the feedback I get from my car.

But you can almost justify the extra 7k for the Bimmer?

You're not gonna try to put regular grade fuel in this are you?

You can't go wrong either either tranny, so don't sweat it.

Most of us wouldn't drive it like the pro does. Check the Motor Trend comparison test out - G37 vs the 335i:

A RWD coupe got 13.7 in the quarter with a 7AT on either R/T or C/D IIRC...

With that said- regarding the AT vs MT, the numbers in the mags have always been about even between the 5AT vs 6MT- within 1 tenth of eachother (13.8 vs 13.9). The highest trap speed I've seen on the mags (pre 2009) have been from the 5AT. With the 7AT there is slight improvement in the mag numbers. On the street you will not likely tell much difference between the two.

If you search 5AT 6MT dynos you will see some dyno comparisons. There really isn't much differnence at all in WHP between the two. Tha will give you an idea of relative acceleration/performance on the road/track.

Keep in mind that you really want to look at 1/4 mile times for a good comparison. 0-60 doesn't man a whole lot unless there is more than 1/2 second difference between the two under the same conditions. In a drag race, it is actually possible to be going a faster MPH and yet still be behind someone at 60 MPH albeit you are technically walking them down a little.

But in the 1/4 mile- distance over time is a better indicator of performance. 1 tenth of a second to 100 + MPH is a much more noticeable result than 3 tenths of a second to 60PMH.

In regards to the G being far away from a 335i, I mean I drive a 5at, and I've raced 3 - 335i's. 2 were def autos and one i suspect being a manual because of how crappy a driver he was. I did not lose to any of them from a roll. I realize they were probably stock, but I'm basically stock as well, minus grounding kit, wheels, and filters, and the races were all good races (At track of course...). So, I'm gonna have to disagree with you about the 335i being the hot ride looking like a million, and the G being the reliable one only. I considered both cars as most people here, and I realize looks are completely subjective, but I have not had one person tell me they thought the 335i was anywhere near as sexy as my G, and I always make a point to ask when they are oggling over it. I would have to say I agree with them as well, and say that the G is a sexier car, most of the reason I went with it.

This is a very good point and I wish more people looked at it this way.

335i > G37 7AT sedan > G37 6mt coupe > Any AWD. That's the math. Who cares about a few tenghs of second? What matters much more in daily driving is the low rpm torque and in that department, the BMW has the VQ motor crushed. If you want to go faster and have an extra 10 grand to spend, bmw is the way to go. I like the 335i but dont have the extra 10 grand, hence g37.
