few ?s help thank you

I tried reseting my ecu the way I read on the forum, just couldn't timed my self and everything.... how do I disconnect the negative batter cable should I just take off the wire on the top of the battery? And how long do I have to do it for? And also would you believe chp pulled me over and gave me a smoked tail lights ticket how much does that go for?

Thank you

Use a 10 mm socket and disconnect the negative battery cable (black). I've never seen anything authoritatively documented as to how long minimum you need to leave it disconnected to reset the ECU, just a lot of theories. I'd leave it disconnected overnight while the car was parked to be sure.

Overnight will reset it. If you want to lock your doors, just leave the hood slightly open so you don't need to get back in the car to open it, or close the hood and use the regular key to open the door if you don't have the driver side keyhole delete.

You will have to reset radio presets and reset your windows when you reconnect the battery.

You can always try just doing it for 30 minutes and see if you're presets clear which I bet they will. I do know that a short period say a few minutes is not enough, my audio installer was able to do the power cable install without wiping out my presets and had it disconnected for a short period.
I believe the time is necessary because a residual charge still exists in capacitors which act like batteries and serve to smooth DC power and take time to discharge once power is disconnected. My bet is 15m should be enough and it's easy to prove. I know I've had mine off for only 30 minutes and lost presets.

Disconnect the battery, and step on the brake pedal so the brake light come on. Residual power should drain quickly (brakes lights will no longer light... hold a few more seconds to be sure )

you will have to resave your radio stations yes.

for the windows - with both doors closed, hold the window down button until they go all the way down and hold for 15 secs. then hold them up til they go up and hold for another 15 secs.

just make sure you don't strip the bolt for the battery connector. I know some law enforcement have been cracking down on smoked tails for liability. i've seen some cars on the road where you can't even see them brake b/c their tailights are tinted so bad.

if someone rear ends you and you have smoked tails, YOU can be at fault
