Driving without intelligent key?

Is it possible to have the car started with the intelligent key and drive off without it? I like to start my car in cold weather to warm it up and usually go back inside but I was wondering can someone get in and drive it off?

You can still lock it while its running by taking the key with you. I do it all the time!

WOW, did not know that! I thought it would be smart enough to know no key is inside and shut the car down when it is being driven away. I have to tell my parents too. They have a 09 Murano with the same key system and my dad already left it running once for an hour while they were in church.

When you think about it- if it did that (shut down when driving off w/o the key)- it could possibly shut down in a dangerous situation... like while pulling out on a busy highway or street.

I'm impressed that it's the people in Florida and Texas that want to leave the car running while here in Canada it used to be a way of life due to the cold weather. Never thought it would be an issue for the south.

It is now illegal in Quebec to leave a car running while unattended due to the pollution. I think there might be a 2 or 3 minute time limit, but I know it is very short.

Nobody’s yet mentioned that when you do it the LCD screen displays a “No Key” warning. Of course that could be good or bad. It tells a smart car thief (yes, that may be an oxymoron) that, without the fob, as soon as he turns off the ignition the car will not start again.

I can see him arriving at the local chop shop, “OK guys, whatever you do don’t turn this car off!”
