GOT a ticking noise HELP PLZ!

HEY guys! i posted about this topic recently but this time i got a sound clip of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGzml...e=channel_page

It sounds like it is under the drivers side or near the middle or maybe near the engine not sure. It happens usually after you drive it or you drive it a bit hard. But i eventually get the sound everyday! I have read on the forums it could be Y pipes or the exhaust and mufflers but not sure which one it is? Can anyone tell me what this problem is?

going to the dealer this week and need to fix what ever that noise is any suggestions what to say or maybe know what it is?

thanx guys in advance

Check this TSB, maybe it's related.

I think the mods are going to slap you on the wrist for posting the same thread twice.

mine is a loud ticking noise sounds like metal cooling, loud snap crackle pops but not in a rhythmic/consistent way - it's more randomized and I can understanding hearing this after the car shuts down - but I can hear it after a drive at idle and at red lights while the car is still ON!!!!

I got my YPipe replaced before and it went away for a while - now its BACK!!! ARGH!

Im takin her in Wednesday to rediagnose it. It's not a noise that should be coming from a 42k car while it's on.

I know exactly what you guys are talking about. It sounds like a little pebble, popping around somewhere in the exhaust, except it's higher up near the engine on the drivers side. I can't stand the noise. Definately should not be present on a near new g37s. I'm going in next saturday. Definately not the metal expanding and contracting- that is different. Some people say the y piece? How would it make that sound? just curious.

That sounds like the infamous exhaust rattle.. I got my "Muffler? i think" replaced and like that "poof!" it was gone.. the way mine worked was i would hear it vibrating on cold start ups.. if you reved the engine it would go away and as soon as the car settled and was in idle it.. you would hear it ticking or rattling again.. I didnt hear it when the car was off.. or when driving but I believe I've heard others when they drive.. Im guessing thats when its gotten worse..

Mine did the same, checked oil level and was low. Changed oil with Castrol Full Synthetic with filter and runs fine.

If you are hearing it when the engine is off, then you can be pretty certain it has nothing to do with your engine. I am almost certain you are hearing the contraction of the exhaust system and heat shields. Usually the catalytic converters make the noise the loudest. It's pretty normal, but I do think our G37's is a bit louder then other cars. I would not loose any sleep over it, it is pretty normal on cars, especially new ones.

I took in my g this weekend for the annoying popping noise. It is a known problem. Something to do with a variable valve. The CPU needs to be re-programed and you get a free oil and filter change. Covered under warranty.

Hope this helps. I'm picking up my g today.
