Infiniti (like all manufacturers) just put those break-in recommendations in the manual for legal purposes to cover their butts. There is no real mechanical reason to follow them anymore. Back in the day when machining tolerances were much higher than they are now, break-in periods were more relevant. Nowadays they are just a relic of older technology.

If you are truly worried about flogging your car from day one BB, I suggest you take a look at the card in the glove box telling you about the test drive every Infiniti is given before it even ships. I'm sure A. Kaji (the guy that tested my G) didn't follow those recommendations on his test drive.....

Hey, like I said - it's your car do what you like to it. I'm still old school about breaking in a car and follow the engine builders' direction. I like to believe the engineer who drove mine for 8 miles did too.

I'm simply presenting the line of reasoning I follow for breaking it in as directed, not like a pissed off teenager. All of the 37K miles I've driven it since break in have not been gentle.

 

Followed break-in. Now at 1,279 miles......

 

lol i floored my car at 59 miles exactly...put about 400-500 miles in one night of pure hell just str8 racing(private course lol).my g has never lost to another stock g37 yet.i think my break in worked lol

 

ask yourself this - how many engines have you heard of in a new modern engine that went craps becasue someone went to redline and not over? I've never heard of one actual account in person. Just don't be stupid with the car and you'll be fine.

 

You'll be thinking "my break in worked" when your replacing your motor at 100k. I break every engine in that I build OR buy.

 

my sisters 350z went through the same procedure,my 10mm Cheetah Cub on alchol banshee used the same procedure as soon as i got the motor put the bike together str8 to the dyno.my g is at 8k miles no problems whatsoever and i only give it hell and torture and shes lucky shes not a 6mt.and yeah i definately am not going to have this car at 100k miles ill say max 40k miles itll be sold 50 pushing itDOMO

 

I hear ya man, was actually wondering what the actual break in period was for... ie proper oil seals or something like that..

 

Somewhat related, i was planning at 1000 miles to get an oil change, clean out all the "break in dirt"...

Should i use synthetic or is there a specific mileage range that you should wait to begin using synthetic??

Do you guys use synthetic? Is it worth it?

 

i followed the break in, don't worry break in is only 1200 miles, compared to the rest of the cars life, that's nothing... so enjoy the break in period... then let her rip!

when it all comes down to it, the manufacturer is making a recommendation on how to take care of your car. it's up to you whether or not you want to take their advice, but it's there for your benefit (as well as the car's). the way i see it, only good can come out of breaking it in, it's just a matter of shelving your impatience for a few weeks.

 

Exactly.. why so impatient you cant wait 2 weeks or so. You'll own the car for many times longer than that and have that whole time to kill it. Its a friggin Inifniti... not a Civic... com' on

Not because i am impatient, i was looking for information, not a bunch of people sending out opinions..

Plus i had the car for 2 weeks now and it has 450 miles on it... So it will be longer then that G-Thang..
