Something is rolling behind my dash!

Ok, there's nothing in my glove box or cigarette area or anything and when i come to an abrupt stop I hear what sounds like a wood marble rolling on plastic then hitting a plasitc wall. Its definately on the passangers side. Takes about a second to happen, maybe less. I'm reluctant to take this to the dealer since tearing the dash appart usually causes more creaks and rattles.

Anybody had this and how hard would it be to get behind the dash. Looks hard to me, but it I'm pretty mechanically inclined. If it doesn't require too special of tools I'd be temped to try it.

I have extensively tested for all these and they are not present.

Maybe there's a midget somewhere in your dash rolling around...

I dont think so, my anti height traps would have kicked in, and I imagine I would have smell by now.

You sure there's nothing located in the passenger's side door compartment?

I've gotten into the lower dash area but I don't see anywhere or anyway something to roll around in there. I haven't been into the upper dash area yet and I'm sure that is going to be a lot more complicated.

If you want to get this far in, just let me know.

Positive. Its like a screw sliding back and forth trough a plastic channel or trough. It takes a mid-hard slam of the breaks to get the thing to move/slide. Then I have to take off with a good clip to get it to move back to its orininal position before I cand get it to happin again. If feels like its slideing from front to back direction. Maybe a large screw or piece of heavy plastic.

looking at the photo I don't see where it could happen. Maybe above as you suggest.

Is it when your air or heat is on specifically? They had some issues where the silicone sealent on the air/heat duct would have small pieces break off and rattle around inside the plastic duct and make noise.

I was thinking something along those lines as well. Not so much if the ventilation is on but more about something inside the ducting.

Did you have someone sit in the passenger seat to determine it is actually coming from the dash?

I've heard noises I thought were coming from the passenger dash before, but it turns out it was either:

1) my sunglasses rattling overhead
2) a pen rolling around in my cup holders
3) loose change I dumped in my cigarette tray
