Maybe not. Aren't you only taxed on the difference? And, with the manual being less than some 5AT's, there may not be any tax involved.

That's the way it works in Tennessee.
In most states the trade in value reduces the taxable amount.

For some reason, not sure why, the manual G 37 costs more than the auto, unlike with every other car, where it is less.

Incorrect!! Most luxury cars now charge a premium for a manual transmission. Automatics are more appealing to the average luxury car buyer (upper-class, over 45 yrs old, multiple kids), so they're much easier for a dealership to move. If a dealership gets a manual transmission vehicle, that car is aimed at a much smaller segment of the luxury car buying population. Due to that, once you get into the more expensive brands, manuals will always carry a premium and most often require a special order.

What car companies are you talking about? I'm talking about companies like Audi and BMW.

Not really. 6MT includes the Sport Package and stickers for $37,815. Journey (5AT) with Sport Package stickers for $39,315.
