Squeaky Clutch Pedal

Worryingly, this is the third squeak related thread I see on the first page of these forums.

My 6MT has 5200 miles on it, leased in May08. I was gentle for the first 1200 miles, and have since driven the car like most others (lots of cruising to and from work, and the weekend blow out!).

About a week ago I noticed a squeak everytime I depressed and released the clutch pedal. For the first 3 days I thought it was my shoe on the rubber part of the pedal. However it occured with different shoes and felt more substantial than a shoe squeak. Last night, I drove home bare foot to remove any suspicion of a shoe/pedal squeak (our clutch is actually very comforatble bare foot I might add), and it squeaked its way home.

I have now identified the squeak to pressing the clutch pedal and releasing it:

1) When the clutch has not been used for more than 3 or so minutes (i.e., when coming out of cruise and to traffic lights)

2) When the clutch is used slowly/gently in smooth gearshifts or slowing down through the gears (i.e. 3rd to 2nd, a slower release for smooth transition).

The squeak does subside if you change gears with F-1 speed, however I don't feel this is good for the clutch or gearbox slamming through gears, and quite frankly at 7:30am I don't feel like doing it either. For normal driving, the squeak is ever present.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Does it sound like a simple problem that a WD-40 style product should fix? Will the dealer cover this kind of thing under the warranty?

I told my wife, if I wanted something o squeak I'd have bought a dog toy for $5 vs a $41k car.

I had this same problem at first. They oiled a bushing or some shiizzit and I have not heard it since. Search and there is at least one thread where several people had the same issue, it is an easy fix.

whoa, wierd.
my bro's cayman clutch went all the way down and was stuck there
the first week he got it.
if any problem like this comes up the best thing is take it to the
dealers.
like my other bro has a black 535i and i have a 528i and we
both had a bad trunk squeak when i opened the trunk, took both
our cars in at the same time and got them fixed for free.

now your car might be a different story with the price of
the repair or if its for free. best of luck!

I'll call and try to take it in today or tomorrow. Knowing my dealer, they will feed me some BS that they can't replicate the sound. I'll post back soon. Thanks for the feedback.

My clutch pedal is squeaking again 2500 miles after the service. I will schedule it in again to have this problem fixed, as its embarrassing in a $40k car to here it squeak everytime I change gear. Its also damn annoying!

The only way around it is to drive like The Stig, but chirping my tires every gear change won't get them to 20k!

Word!
Sometimes, it sounds like someone farted in the car. I usually ride solo, so I can't way "it wasn't me".
